Question about 1985 Ford Ranger

1985 Ford Ranger will not start when damp and cool outside.

Pickup starts fine when outside temp is dry and warm (we live in Colorado) When colder and damp engine just turns over without firing.
As soon as temp rises pu starts right up.

Possibly distributor cap getting wet. Try this. When it's not starting, remove distributor cap and dry inside and outside with hair dryer on warm setting. See if it starts then. If yes, replace cap and rotor and make sure plug wires are clean.
If it still doesn't start, you may be getting mositure in a wire connector that operates spark to plugs.

Are you getting spark at plugs when it own't start?
Check by getting a spark plug and plugging a spark plug wire into it and grounding the side of the plug. crank engine and watch for spark at gap.

It sounds like water in the distributer. Take off the cap and take a look. Any condensation will interfer with egnition.

Hmm...........

Probably carb? Automatic choke not working? Remove air filter and spray carb with cleaner, Make sure all parts move freely. With engine cold, check automatic choke position. Start and check function as it warms up.

It is time to replace your clutch assembly and reface or change the flywheel. you may be able to do some adjustment but it will not last for long.

I have a 1987 ranger 2.3 EFI and sometimes it will not start when it's cold. after it warms up outside it starts. When it does start it runs great. It always starts when warm. some times it will

Timing belt being off one tooth will not cause this problem but rather loss of power and hard starting all the time,

in the cold it will not start, the engine will spin but wont fire is this correct?

There are many things that can cause this, a little testing will be needed, the first thing that comes to mind with the ford and cold weather is the coolant temp sensor, it give computer a false reading and can cause hard starting or even no start, a scan tool would be helpful to see what temp it is give computer.
The best way to narrow this down to to check for spark when it wont start, a weak coil in cold weather will cause this problem or bad coil wire to cap, but if you can see if it has spark and let me know,
another test is to check fuel pressure, to see if it is getting fuel, and the fuelpump relay,

Let me know if it has spark or fuel when is does not start, good day

Temperature gauge goes well past halfway when outside temp is above 80 degrees, and A/C on.

I would start with checking the fan clutch if thats fine do a completed cooling system flush and replace the thermostat if you are still having problems replace the water pump

1992 toyota tacoma pick up will not start when it is colder outside. Usually when the temp is closer to 0 degree's. When it warms up outside there is no problem.....

Do you have a good battery? Cold weather is hard on batteries. Also you may need to change to a winter grade of oil. Oil thickens in the cold a makes starting difficult as well. Let me know. Thanks.

1992 ford ranger pickup 4 cyl. 5 speed

Your engine coolant temp. sensor is going bad. What happens is that your engine computer is receiving a bad signal from the ECT sensor and it thinks it's 40 below. An example is it basically slams the choke shut if it had a distributor. When it cools off, I'll bet it runs just fine.
