Cadillac: 1989 Cad replacing leaking fluid cylinder, rear drum brakes, hand vacuum pump
reardrum brakes, hand vacuum pump, fluid cylinder: Well first off buy thenew cylinder, usually around 20 bucks or so. You MAY be able to get thecylinder out without removing the brake shoes but it depends on how thesystem works. You could try compressing both sides of the cylinder andpull it out once...
Hi T, Without access to a scan tool to see what the sensors are tellingthe computor it would be tough to point to any one thing. However ifyou haven't replaced the oxygen sensor that is a possability. Also onhigher mileage vehicles the fuel pressure regulator tends to develope ahole in the diaphram and allow fuel to go into the engine via thevacuum hose. If you run the engine and then shut it off it would besafe to remove the vacuum hose and see if any fuel is present. Youcould also turn the key so the dash lights up and that will pressureizethe fuel system and then you might see fuel. As a last test run theengine with the hose off and see if gas dribbles out.
Those 2 things can cause the engine to run rough and allowblack smoke out the tailpipe. As a last suggestion, take the car toyour mechanic for a diagnostic and see what they come up with. Then youcan deside if you are up to replaceing that part or just let the techdo it.
