Cleaning foggy, oxidized headlight covers on my 2000 Subaru Outback with household items?nck AWD, 4 cylinder wagon...with?

Rubbing compound will buff off the oxidation that effects (clouds) the outside surface of plastics. Some waxes have a little abrasive that will help do this. Toothpaste will also work mixed with wax. Use some muscle and buff til it is dry to restore the plastic gloss. Shops use an electric or pneumatic buffer with a wool or foam pad and extra fine rubbing compound.

Drivers side headlight bulb replacement

  1. Open the hood to the 1999 Dodge Stratus.

  2. Locate the two headlight lens assembly retaining screws at the top of each side of the assembly.
  3. Remove each screw with the ratchet and a suitable socket.
  4. Place the screwdriver behind the lens assembly to assist in prying out the guide pins that secure and align the headlight assembly. Hold the lens assembly from the outside edge (marker light/directional light section) first and pry from behind with the screwdriver to unseat the guide pins. Pry from the inside end of the lens assembly to unseat the other guide pin.
  5. Pull the lens assembly out far enough to reach behind it and disconnect the headlight bulb wire harness from the back of the bulb. Or simply remove the bulb by twisting the harness and retaining ring counterclockwise and remove it as an assembly.
  6. Turn the marker light/directional light socket and wire counterclockwise to remove it from the headlight lens assembly.
  7. Remove the assembly from the front of the Stratus.

My headlights are so dim I need to replace the covers. How do I do that?

I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus Sedan, and from what I can tell, the lenses and covers are pretty tricky to remove. A quick, inexpensive alternative is to sand and polish the lenses. I first attempted this with no experience whatsoever and it was surprisingly easy.

All you need to do is pick up a small variety of sandpaper ranging from 600-grit to 2000- or higher grit. There is a specific type of paper called Crocus Cloth that also works remarkably well when used in place of the higher grit papers. You may also want to pick up a bottle of headlight lens restorer. They are all reasonably inexpensive, and I have had quite a bit of success with this one.

Anyway, to sand and polish, simply rinse the lenses with water, and wipe away any dirt and debris. Then begin with the 600-grit paper, and sand the entire lens, focusing on the worse sections until the entire surface has the same 600 grit scratching. Keep the lens wet and move up to a higher grit such as 800 or 1000. repeat the process and then continue progressing to higher grits, finishing with 2000 or Crocus Cloth. At this point, the lenses should be looking fairly clear, with minuscule scratching from the high-grit paper. Then apply a small amount of lens restorer and rub it in a circular motion to remove the last of the visible wear marks.

As I said, I have had quite a bit of success with this, and it is a very inexpensive alternative to replacing the lenses altogether. Best of luck to you.

Foggy headlight lens replace driver door mirror

Foggy headlight lens is from water ingress and gets trapped in there, the easiest way for you is to unscrew the back of the headlight assembly and get a hair drier and just dry out the head light, it may come back after a few rains,, other wise undo the screw holding the headlight unit, disconect wires and remove unit, I have the submerged unit into water watching where air bubbles come from then apply a small bead of water proof flexible sealand or silastic around the edge where the cover and lense meet, Dont try to take the lense off you will break something. Dry out completly and use hair dryer agin on low setting to make sure all moisture is gone and reassemble back onto vehicle....

1999 taurus has foggy headlights.

Most Auto Stores sell a headlight solution that cleans the fogginess of your headlight. Assuming your headlight looks dirty and cloudy as would a pool, a simple solution is to pick up the cleaner at any auto place. That is a lot cheaper than buying a new headlight.
