Question about Buick Century

1 Answer

How do I tell if I need to replace my brakes without looking at them? I took the car to the mechanic who has been doing all the work on it for the past several years and he didn't even check the pads. I told him I think I need a brake job, and he looked at me and said yes you do. It'll cost about sixtey five dollars. How can I tell whithout looking and if I need them how can I do it myself?

Breaks wont come on in lincoln

Take it back to the mechanic and tell them to check for a loose connection. They probably left the ABS or some other sensor unplugged.

well first of all, the mechanic you took it to was not a good one because he did unnecessary work to your car by changing the master cylinder, second, a good mechanic will know how to fix your abs, by replacing damaged speed sensors or abs computer. but my recommendation is that unless you have a lot of money or brake very hard frequently, that it is not a big deal because abs only comes in when you have to brake hard, and even without abs, your regular brakes work fine. abs does not come standard on all cars, including some new basic cars don't have abs. if you do take it to a shop, it should cost no more than 300 dollars to fix it, considering you have a trustworthy mechanic, if you like to get dirty and do it your self, you can google "92 accord abs computer", and a couple of forums come up on how to diagnose and correct the problem. so if money is tight, you can ignore this problem as it is a "luxury" feature any ways. my car has the same problem and ive had my car for 3 years with no brake problems at all. and if it makes you feel more comfortable, my friend has a 92 accord and his has no abs even from factory so like i said, it is just a "luxury" feature, and you should have no braking problems at all. just be safe when you drive, and you should be fine. hope this helps, good luck

your foot pedal is a hydraulic brake and is used constantly. the brake pads are on the outside of the rotar and in constant motion in and out which wears the seal inside the caliper causing it to leak.as for the emergency brake, it is a mechanical brake inside whats like a small drum on the inside of the rotor (back rotors only) the mechanical parts inside the drum will seize up because they are never used and are exposed to the elements everytime you drive. if you have the emergeny brake serviced and fixed and want to keep it in good working order you would need to start using it more often. as for the fuel presure loss could be another bad fuel pump or a restriction in the lines somewhere. maybe a malfunction fuel presure regulator. hard to say without looking at it

Screwed on break job?

Sound like most of your money went into his pocket. I use only the best brakes (most expensive pads on my stuff and my customers) usually purchased from a dealer. O. E. is the best (Original Equipment)

Brake problems

The brakes could well be worn down to the minimum safe limit and although they may work fine the mechanic in question is just letting you know that they really need replacing before they cause any problems.
