Question about 2000 GMC Yukon

1 Answer

Ignition nightmare occasionally my 2000 gmc yukon 5.3l keeps "turning" in an attempt to start and usually always does start but sounds awful while trying to start and then runs fine. I have replaced the air filter, fuel filter, plugs and wires, cleaned the throttle body housing, and I even replaced the throttle idle valve. truck runs great and I try and keep on top of things but can't figure this one out. Did the fuel cleaner also.

It sounds like you may need a new starter. The bendix on your current starter may be dry and worn so it could be causing wear on your ring gear.

Yes it can. It depends on how the bendix engages the ring gear. Sometimes it will line up and others it won't.

Why doesn't it crank or start?

Sounds like the immobilizer system is preventing you starting it. This usually requires a main dealer to fix.

How do i reset 2010 GMC Yukon XL security system

30 MINUTE RELEARN PROCEDURE
  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start.
  3. Observe the SECURITY telltale. After approximately 10 minutes, the telltale will turn OFF.
  4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
  6. Important: The vehicle learns the password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
  7. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the password.
If this doesn't work, it is possible to bypass the security http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Resetting the passlock

1. First, insert the ignition key and turn the ignition switch to the "On" position (Do not start the engine). Leave the switch on for 11 minutes. The security light may flash or be on steady during this 11 minute period. Make sure the light is no longer on or flashing before proceeding to #2 .
2. Turn the ignition switch off for 30 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position (as in step #1) for 11 minutes again.
4. Turn the ignition switch off for another 30 seconds.
5. Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position for 11 minutes a third time.
6. Turn the ignition switch off for 30 seconds one final time.
7. Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position one final time and wait 30 seconds.
8. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine starts and runs normally, the relearn is complete. If the engine does not start, Go to this link for info
