Jeep started fine backed out of the driveway put it in D and it died. Fuel pump runs constantly with key on and I do have fuel pressure at the injectors. I am at a loss any help would be appreciated
The engine does Crank and I did attempt to replace the Crank Sensor today, What a chore!! The sensor that I purchased from AutoZone (SU3028) seemed to be to long it had a paper substance at the end and the manual said it was supposed to be there, but after instalation when I tried to restart I could here it rubbing. I removed the sensor again took of the paper at the end reinstalled it and the Jeep would not start but I no longer heard the rubbing!! I suspect a lot of them rub...hope it wasn't damaged...they should work within 1/4 in of the flywheel. If you can't find a shorter one, try backspacing it with a couple of washers.

I assume the engine turns when attempting to start. A sudden failure like that is usually the crank sensor. I suggest you do a code check though before spending $ chasing the problem.

Mine did the same thing, I also replaced the crank sensor and it did not solve my problem. I replaced the fuel pump relay and it ran fine ever since. Try that, it's a cheap item, and easy install.

U need to check the crankshaft position sensor. The fuel pump will only have power for 2 seconds I till it sees a crank signal. It' controls the asd relay which turns on your spark and fuel
You need to check components again when the engine is hot and in no-start condition, otherwise, you will get bad info...obviously whichever part is doing this works fine cold. ones that react most to heat are crank pickup, ignition coil and the fuel pump.(bad ones get hot and bind up)
My 98 Cherokee was the exact same. I used to have to turn the key back and forth 3 times and then it would start. Otherwise it would just crank and crank for a while and then start. Pretty embarrassing! Took it to the dealer and they said that my fuel pump was losing pressure. I changed the fuel pump and I don't have to prime the pump anymore.
i have a 98 and it has a distributor but it could be a fuel issue more than a spark if you have a fuel pressure gauge and check it.should be above 30 psi to me it sounds like a fuel pump thats bad
Same thing happened to me at about 140k. It was the fuel pump. Best way to test if your pump is failing and loosing pressure is to see if the car will start immediately after it has been running, or turn the key to the alt position for a few minutes before starting. If your engine fires faster after it has been running or the key has been in the alt position you will probably need a new fuel pump. Great news is with a very deep socket to get the tank straps off its a 30 minute job to replace the pump/filter assembly.
Before you crank try and cut key on for 5-10 seconds then off and back on then crank if cranks up then you have a fuel problem. this will allow pump to run and pump fuel up. could be a bad check valve in pump causing fuel to drain back
