Question about 1995 Pontiac Grand Am

Changing heater core: 1995 grand am

In order to change the heater core in my 95 grand am I have to remove the center counsole, i took out the screws but the counsole still won't budge, do you know how to remove.

    No, If bolts were missing it would have been easier to take out the console. Figured it out,(with some help from fixya) popped out the plate around the shifter handle, there was a clip on the shifter handle, popped the clip to remove the shifter handle, underneath were four bolts, removed bolts and console came off. Thanks anyway.

Best thing you can do is go to library . they will loan repair book's . or buy one . you are missing bolts some place , or somthing .

STEPS TO REMOVE HEATER CORE IN 1996 ISUZU TROOPER
  1. Remove battery cables.
  2. You have to remove the upper dash pad on this paticular year model. with a 10 mm socket and a 1/2 inch extension remove the 5 retaining bolts. Remove the blower assembly under the passenger side of dash.
  3. Remove passenger side seat and center counsole.
  4. Drain radiator.
  5. Disconnect hoses from now exposed heater core.
  6. Turn it 180 degrees and slide out.
  7. Replace in reverse order.

Change a heater core


  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Remove glove box attaching screws, then the glove box.
  3. Remove lower sound insulator attaching screws and nuts, then the lower sound insulator.

Heater And A/C Programmer And Actuators
  1. Remove programmer as follows:


  1. Remove programmer shield attaching screws, then the programmer shield.
  2. Disconnect threaded rod from programmer.
  3. Disconnect programmer electrical and vacuum connector, then remove programmer.


  1. Disconnect body control module electrical connector, then remove module attaching screws and module.
  2. Remove relay panel from module assembly, then the module assembly heater core cover.
  3. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core.
  4. Remove two heater core attaching screws, then the heater core.
  5. Reverse procedure to install.

How do you remove the console in a 95 grand am se


It is very hard!! You actually are supposed to remove the whole dash!! I took a shortcut and just took the screws out of the plastic box under the dash where the heater core is,behind the console, next to the floorboard, and cut it across the back on the bottom. You then have to get under the car to remove this screw that is on the firewall between the 2 heater core hoses..then remove the hoses from the heater core on the firewall. Then you can get back inside the vehicle and it will pull out. When you replace, the cover that you cut, just put the screws back in and put some tape across where you cut the cover off. It saved me from having to take the whole dash out, and having to spend $300 to have a mechanic replace my heater core!!

Cooling system problem


try running it to running temp and try to check the heater core hoses. if one is hotter then other may have pluged up heater core.

around 2 hours or $200 for labor, here is the procedure to do it yourself.

Where is the heater core valve in a '95 grand marquis


it is usually in line in the heater hose from the block to the heater core. it looks like a mushrom with a linkage on it.

Yes it is a heater core leak, here is how to change it.
