Question about 1987 Chevrolet V10

700r4 tranny problem

Ok, so i just bought a 1987 Scottsdale c10 with a 350 and a 700r4 transmission, both of which were just rebuilt together around 5000 miles ago. A buddy and i took our trucks off roading, and after we were done i noticed that my truck wouldn't go over 25mph. after closer inspection i noticed that my kick down cable broke off from the trottle body, so i took a wire clothes hanger and rigged it back to the lever. Now i have to rev high just to get it to shift (dont kno how high no rpm gauge but i would say aound 5k), and if it hasn't shifted then it sounds like a manual tranny trying to catch back up to its self. my first thought after this was that when the kick down cable broke that the other end jammed a check ball so i dropped the trans pan and the valve bodyto check but all good. I know my mechanics but this has me stumped.... any ideas?????

Will a 1988 chevy scottsdale transmission enterchange with earlier model transmissions like 1983 or 1984 with 350 or 305 engines

Three different transmissions could be in either the 88 or the 83 or84. The 4 speed auto 700r4, the 9 inch tail t-350, or the 9 inch tail t-375. as long as it is the same type transmission, they will interchange. The 4 speed 700r4 has some internal internal differences between the years, but will still work. The 350 or 375 trannys are identical from that year range.

I bought a 92 Chev 2500 4X4 from a guy just recently. He said the tranny wont go into gear. I found the transfer case was in neutral. So i put it in gear and away it goes. But reverse seamed sluggish. ...

If your transmission is a 700r4 (4l60) you have a reverse band that engages when you want to go in reverse. since it drives forward your low reverse clutch and your fwd clutch are working. This leaves the band which was probably slipping now is not engaging.

The throttle valve cable controls the transmission pressure. Adjusting this cable is the most important step when installing a 700R4 or 200R4 transmission.

Reverse out on 94 Chevy 1500

Look under the truck and check for loose or broken wires leading to the transmission, if this looks ok you probably have an issue with the transmission electrol control module, these units are about $100.00 used from a junk yard and you will be taking a chance since this may not solve the problem, make sure the transmission filter is not clogged or fluid level is low.

Bought the wrong 700r4?!

I believe the bolt pattern is the same that transmission should bolt up to your v-8 assuming it's a small block, the transmission should work fine, you may need to modify the shifter but everything else should be compatible, if your v-8 is carberated make sure you have the correct throttle link set up because correct tv cable adjustment is critical, the v-6 transmission may have a lighter stack up in the 3-4 drum so dont be to hard on it while in 3rd or 4th.

good luck

Transmission downshifts hard when I let off the gas at slow speeds

Transmission sensor.your gear ratio was not set up properly..Its supposed to be mapped out soo the tranny shifts at a neutral rpm(around 2500-3400 rpm) its punching into gear correct?could have been a rebuilt tranny in which case they just replace the current problem..Or it could be a flywheel.1st thing to get done is to change the transmission fluid and filter.Goto midas or somewhere like they and they call it a flush and fill and it costs around $160 which is best case scenario.

86 chevy tranni swap

yes a plate can be built however the shop rate to build it versus the kit can be debated all day. thje question is always how much it costs and how long you want to wait. neither side is wrong. i have done both. my question is why do you want to use the 350 it doesn't have the over drive like the 700r4 does, plus you lose torque as well. most times yopu can get a rebuilt 700r4 for around 400 bucks and have less headaches

i am not a transmission expert but i would ck the kickdown cable on throttlebody. if disconnected or out of adjustment, it can do internal trans damage. seen it happen on several lincoln town cars around that year. if you suspect something wrong there, call a local tranny shop for quick advice, i'm sure he will know what youre talking about
