Was is a freeze plug hole? Is it a perfectly round hole in the side of the engine block?

  • its420_us May 11, 2010

It's leaking from what's called a "freeze plug". It may be able to be replaced without pulling the engine if there is enough space to tap a new one in with a hammer and block of wood. The part may cost $5.00.

The round opening you are speaking of is known as a "freeze plug" a concave "lid" shaped metal plug inserted in the block to prevent the engine block from cracking during extremely cold weather; any shop can easily replace this plug but, have all of these plugs checked just in case another one is about to go

Radiator light is on. And I have no heat ?

the easy way to do this is put your heating on full widows open ,run the engine with expansion bottle cap off ,this will remove the air in both your heater core and the radiator.

I change the thermstat i change the water pump what alse would make it over heat

I have a 1998 Disco I and I have the same problem. This weekend, June 29, 2013 my car overheated while driving up a maze in a parking garage to the guest parking. All of a sudden my temperature went way high but not quite at the redline. By the time I got to the seventh level and turned off the care, the radiator spewed fluid everywhere. The next morning I drove it home (3 miles) and it did not overheat. I filled the radiator with water and there is no obvious leak. I don't know what to do and I have been driving here and there with no problem and no overheating !!!!?????

1994 Saab 900s How to tell if I may have a cracked radiator

Radiator, water pump seal, overflow bottle? How much fluid left in the rad? If it's a rad or water pump, cheaper replacements should be possible. The other thing that will cause it to overheat is the thermostat... if you can get heat inside the car when running, it's probably okay. A bad pump seal will leak pretty quickly, and should be easy to see when the car is running. Get a rebuilt one!

2000 saab 93 is over heating, had small radiator leak used a sealer and leak still persistant at times now that it is warm. Car over heats then the oil light comes on. Have water in radiator now till I can...

Having water instead of fluid can cause an issue, the other issue is that you are getting air into your system from the leaking radiator that needs to be fixed. Also because of the radiator you are not getting the the correct amount of pressure in your system to properly have air flow throughout your vehicle.

91 accord lx overheating, leaking fluid but no smoke or steam? i have a 91 accord 180,000 miles awesome car but just now started over heating. no smoke or steam are coming out i don't know is that means...

the green colour will be antifreeze additive in the water, you should really trace the leak source as it is bound to continue or worsen without repair. You could try a product called CE-LIT which comes in little packets, looks like chopped up grass or silica - add to hot radiator and run at idle for several minutes, it is really good if you can find it where you live. I put a screwdriver thru the rad when fixing my number plate in the snow, huge leak ensued, ce-lit closed it within 5 minutes and I was able to drive off. Never leaked again either, if you cant find that one, get a similar one, but not the liquid leak sealers like barr's as they are ****.

I am leaking a huge amount of water and i dont

If you smell antifreeze inside the cab then it will going to be a heater core leak.

Use white paper and see if the fluid green (or same color as you radiator coolant.

ID the fluid is VERY IMPORTANT right now.

Condensation fluid from AC is just water.

There is a condenser drain behind the dash (near center). The passage way can be clogged and water may spill out on sharp let or right turn,

ID the color of the fluid first.

Monitor the coolant fluid level. If it goes do the look for the source of the leak.
