Question about 2004 Pontiac Montana
I can get my drivers rear window to go down, but not back up. I don't think it is the switch, it will go down on the master panel and on the passenger panel, but not up on either one. Any ideas?
If the window goes down, that says the motor is good. Being a DC motor it will run either direction. The window switch reverses the polarity. You can remove the door panel to get to the window motor connector and determine which wire is live in the down position of the switch. There is only 2 wires at the window motor. After you find out which wire is live for "down", using a 12v battery reverse the polarity by connecting a piece of wire from the battery positive to the window motor terminal that was NOT live in the "down" switch position before. And connect a piece of wire from the battery negative to the window motor terminal that WAS live in the "down" switch position before and the window will go up. Now being positive that the problem in not the motor. You will have to back track to the switches to determine what switch is the cause. Hope this helps. Good luck.

SOURCE: passenger electric window
I think that what has happened with your vehicle, is that the master (driver control) switch has become defective....If you have a friend who is good with electronics you may be able to ask for help in getting it fixed....otherwise a new unit is needed.

Is you car fitted with a childlock safety switch for the rear windows?
If so the windows will work from the front but will be locked out to the rear seat passenger

Tips for a great answer:
Passenger Door Module (PDM)
Body Control Module (BCM)
RR power window switch
Window up and window down relays in each of the rear passenger window switches
Window lockout switch
Reversible power window motors in each of the doors (circuit breaker protected)
LT DOOR CB 25A (System power for left windows)
RT DOOR CB 25A (System power for right windows)
The DDM contains four power window switches which are integral components. Closing any of the normally open, rocker type switches provides the DDM with a request for power window operation. The switches for the two front windows have three positions UP, Down and Express Down, while the switches for the rear windows have only two positions, UP and Down. Each of these switches and their positions is a direct input into the DDM. Upon receiving a request for power window operation, the DDM, transmits a Class 2 message indicating the switch and it's changed position.
The PDM contains a single power window switch that is an integral component. Closing of this normally open, rocker switch provides the PDM with a request for the front passenger power window operation. The switch for the front passenger window has two positions Up and Down. Each of these switch positions is a direct input to the PDM.
The two rear passenger doors have there own switches. Each of the switches contain a power window up and down relay. A switch activation alone can control the up and down functions of the rear windows. However the BCM, upon receiving a Class 2 message from the DDM, can control the set of relays which will activate the rear window motors.
You need a scan tool to diagnose these systems
Power Window Inoperative - Driver Door
Did you perform the Door Systems Diagnostic System Check?
Go to Step 2
Go to Diagnostic System Check - Door Systems
Operate the driver power window in the UP and DOWN directions.
Does the driver power window operate properly?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems
Go to Step 3

Before you replace anything, inspect the connector pins in both the driver's door switch and the passenger door switch. If you don't find any problem with these connector pins, replace the driver's door control switch.
