Question about 2002 Ford ZX2
Just bought this car for my son's first car. 120,000 miles. Clean car. has manual 5 speed. Seems like it should have more get up and go. The plugs are motorcraft platnum. seem to be pretty good. Check engine light was on gave a P0125 code. Probably going to change out the thermostate to a 180. Temp gauge does not always work. Might throw on a temp switch. I understand the bottom one not the top one.I just noticed a cracked elbow on some sort of rubber tube, just below next to the temp switch. Have no clue what it is. Could that be my problem with bad milage and poor performance? Also do not know if the timing belt was done.
Replace any vaccuum leaks cracked hoses/tubes , you can get a can of brake cleaner and spray on the intake and all around when the motor is cold and see if the rpm's change. If you do their is a leak. Has the fuel filter been changed ? That can cause this. Then find out about the timing belt if it is off by a tooth or 2 then sluggish is what you get. and a bad temp sensor can cause a driveabilty problem as well so go ahead and change that and make sure car has the proper thermostat in it.
