I have a 2004 Acura RL, navigation screen reads "check nav disc". How do I fix?

Your Navigation disc usually is in the CD player. Most require the First Disc to be the Navigation disc. Now if this disc was removed or if someone changed the position of #1 disc and inserted something else, then that is why you have your message.

It is also possible that removing the Battery from the car may cause it to lose the programming in the Navigation. It may simply need the Navigation disc to be reread.

Acura navigation system stopped working

I have a 2007 Acura TL. The navigation system worked well, until 2017, when I decided not to renew it. Everything started to go wrong. It worked intermittently. Cost me job interviews, getting lost and being late. Did you receive a message, "See your dealership"? Well, the dealership was charging the same as the renewal price. A coincidence or an attempt to force the renewal? Well, I gave in. I just received the new navigation system (disc). It hasn't been installed as yet. Try reprogramming and find out how old the system is. A great car. The turning radius and the navigation system are my problems. Good luck.

2005 Mercury Mountaineer with DVD Entertainment System that will not read disk

The data on the DVD map disc ages at a rate of 15-20% per year. As the data ages, the functionality of the navigation system declines. Offering GM customers new navigation DVDs will ensure that the customers have the latest information for their system.

General Motors offered a Navigation Disc Update Program for alot model year vehicles. This program concluded on December 31, 2009. The DVD Navigation Update Program policy has changed and customers are no longer eligible for free annual updates, however, a navigation DVD update disc can be purchased for $199 (USD) + shipping.

If the navigation disc is needed for a warranty situation, the disc can be purchased for $120 (USD). The dealer must provide a VIN and RO# XXXXX qualify for the reduced price. The dealer must call the GM Navigation Disc Center, as this option is not available on the website.

The GM Navigation Disc Center launched on March 15, 2006. There are two ways to obtain an updated disc:
* Via the web through gmnavdisc.com
* GM Navigation Disc Center 1-877-628-3472

Technical Service Bulletins are sometimes generated to address specific navigation radio operational or performance issues. When a navigation radio bulletin is issued, it may contain instructions to utilize an advanced vehicle navigation (AVN) software update with a specific part number. GM dealers must order advanced vehicle navigation (AVN) software update discs as directed in the specific bulletin.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Navigation system disc error

Assuming both or one of the disks is ok and not damaged and compatable, then its likely the reading lens in the unit is dirty or otherwise damaged. You could disassemble and clean it all, but can be tricky and sometimes if not competent, you can kill it altogether. Some have had joy with blowing into unit with compressed air, potentially clearing lense, but id persknally not do this as could damage other bits in there, especially if too high pressure.

you can send units off for strip and precondition, but it could well be cheaper to buy a secondhand unit. Failing all this, use a phone app or standalone nav unit, which will be more up to date and perhaps cheaper to, but obviously doesn't retain that factory nav.

the above assumes the disk mechanism is in the screen unit. If remote, ie in boot or glove box, then check the cables for damage and for solid connections, at both disk reader and the unit as well, and even try a new cable if possible.

hope you get it sorted one way or the other.

I am just guessing, but it sounds like whoever traded the car in might have given you a disc that wasn't for your particular vehicle??? I ordered a disc online, thinking I had the right one... and it read Disc Error as well when inserted. However, when I got the part# right, the new disc worked like a charm.

Also, when I bought my Charger... the dealership told me that it is not uncommon for the former owner to switch out discs before they trade the car in. I would call your dealer and read the number off the disc to them... so that they can check it to be sure that it is one that should be compatible with your year/make/model before I went any further.
