Question about 2005 Dodge Ram 1500
Hi, I've recently encounted some issues with my 05 dodge ram truck. I'm not sure if this is instrument cluster or raido related or not, but I've found evidence online that it could be. The problem was while driving, I suddenly lost my instrument panel guages. They stopped working, all lighting came on and a 'No Bus' error was dislayed, although the truck still ran fine. Long story short, ive done some research, and the error means the instrument cluster is not receiving messages from all PCM modules or something like that. I've read that the problem could be b/c or a faulter instrument cluster and also because there is a white/violet striped wire connecting all vehicle modules including cluster, radio, amp, ABS controller, A/C controller, and more. A problem with this wire somewhere could cause the issue. I recently swapped out my stock headunit for an aftermarket panasonic and wired it up myself using a wiring diagram I found online. One of the wires is a white/violet wire. The diagram did not list its use, and without it everything seemed to work fine so I left it disconnected. Whats weird is that everything worked fine for a few months until this happened yesterday. Does this wire need to be connected to the headunit via ACC, or ground or something?? Or can I just leave it as it is (plastic cap over cut end). Ive not found any info anywhere that mentions what should be done with this wire when installing an aftermarket unit. Any help is apprecated. Thanks -Keith
That wire needs to be hooked to the factory radio , part of the PCI bus - serial data communication network . I know on GM vehicles if the radio isn't hooked to the bus the vehicle will not start an run . Don't know if Dodge vehicles are that complex . http://www.dodgeintrepid.net/31-car-audio-video/58412-why-pci-bus-connection-radio.html http://www.carsondemand.com/IDLdocuments/Learning%20Guide/4450-t9r0k5io6vxazm80x5ire9zj4.pdf

i had this problem , all you need to do is hook the ground wire from your new radio to the braided wire that hooked on your old radio and insert a bolt in the hole and tightin ,then check fuses and your dash lights will work and dome light.
