Will not start

It seems that something was burned out trying to make the starter turn. The problem could be the starter and/or the solenoid.

Go to youtube and enter, "how to check a starter" you may have to remove it to check it. I could tell you how. But it is better if you see how it's done for yourself. Also check the fuses.

Wont start/turn over clicks when turn key/battery good

If the battery is good as you state. then the starter must be at fault, if you can reach it give it a light tap with a hammer and try again. if this fixes it you need your starter replaced or repaired.

1995 f350 powerstroke wont start one other time had to drop shifter and put back to park before it started now it wont start the lights elect windows and glow plug cycles but no clicking noise just nothing

replace the transmission range sensor. Adjust the new sensor by loosening the bolts slightly, turning the key on, putting the truck in reverse, and turning until reverse light come on.

there are 2 possible sensors, depending on which transmission you have.

New battery but car won't start. Ligts stay bright with ignition to start. Nothing happens ,no click, does not turn over. How do I find out if the switch is bad or a connection somewhere else?

IS IT A AUTO MATIC if so check in N not P and see if it will start as it could be the sencer switch on the side of the gear box. other wise,
First you put a test light on the starter motor feed wire goining into the starter and turn on the key to start ,if light lights up then the starter motor isent any good , remove it and get repaired or replaced.
if light does not light up then the feed to starter isent there so go to Solinoid {its between battery and the starter }just follow the red wire from the battery and it should have a small black wire going into it between the big heavey wires it might have come off OR the fuse could have blown.
If all fails then take to the elect shop ,and to do this is to turn on the ign switch to start, put a jumper lead on the starter term were the wire is and hand break on/G/Lever in P, or N in manule box.
now touch the jumper lead to the +pos on battery and engine should either start or turn over ,,,either way if turns over its the job for the Elect shop.

20 amp fuse in ACC slot keeps blowing

ACC slot is the Accessories slot. Perhaps there is a short or overload condition in the vehicle with the cigarette lighter or an add on electronic device.

Try to connect the two posts of the solenoid to see if bypassing the key cylinder works the starter. If it does, then this points to the key switching problem for the starter to the solenoid.

Also, check the neutral/back up safety switch:
Neutral Start/Back-Up Light Switch REPLACEMENT & ADJUSTMENT
  1. Remove the console trim from the console.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch.
  3. Remove the 2 attaching screws from the switch and remove the switch. Fig. 1: Neutral start/back-up light switch 85347017.gif

  4. To install a new switch:
    1. Place the switch onto the transmission control shifter and loosely install the attaching screws. Position the transmission control shifter assembly in the N notch in the detent plate.
    2. Assemble the switch to the transmission control shifter assembly by inserting the carrier tang into the hole in the shifter lever.
    3. Install the attaching screws and tighten.
    4. Move the transmission control shifter assembly out of N position. This will shear the switch internal plastic pin.
  5. To install the original switch:
    1. Place the switch onto the transmission control shifter and loosely install the attaching screws. Position the transmission control shifter assembly in the N notch in the detent plate.
    2. Rotate the switch on the shifter assembly to align the service adjustment hole with the carrier tang hole. Insert a 3⁄32 in. (2.38mm) diameter gauge pin to a depth of 9⁄16 in. (15mm) and tighten attaching screws.
    3. Remove the gauge pin.
  6. Connect the electrical connector to the switch.
  7. Install the console trim to the console.

Starter continues

I had an 86 E150 that the same thing happened to. I put a rebuilt starter in and the problem was solved. Maybe you too. I talked with a machanic and was informed that sometimes when that happens the starter will become a generator and blow the whole electical system, was lucky i didn't have that problem.

I have a 99 f150 v6. the truck will start sometime but when it doesn't it acts like everythings work ok but won't turn over. battery, starter, silond, and intetion have all been replaced, i really need...

If u haven't taken it in to the dealer yet then do so. There was a recall for faulty cruise control wiring which caused my dads truck to do the same thing. That wiring tends to start on fire so i suggest doin it sooner rather than later.
