If this is the factory original I would use penetrating oil on it first on the threaded areas and let set for a few days. Other wise you may bend the lines up bad which will cost even more to replace

SOURCE: removing original fuel filter on 96 grand am

if original, don't worry about the black cap and tabs on the non-threaded end of the filter connection. Unfortunately, you have to literally pull the heck out of it to separate it from this connection. What is holding it in is a metal "barbed" collared sleeve inside the connection. Try using a pliers on the cable side (don't bend or break!) and work the filter off using elbow grease. Not fun, but it worked. The FRAM replacement filter simply snapped right in.

  • 3 Separate the tabs on the quick connect fitting and pull off from the fuel line. This is the inlet line.

    Need to replace fuel filter

The fuel filter is mounted on the floor pan just in front of the fuel tank Use compressed air or carburetor cleaner to clean any dirt surrounding the fuel inlet and outlet line fittings. Once all the dirt has been removed, twist the two lines a quarter-turn in opposite directions to loosen the fitting. Depress the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs and detach the inlet line from the fuel filter (see illustration [see comment below marked "#2"] ). Note: Have spare rags or a small container to catch or wipe up extra gasoline that will spill from the filter assembly. Use an open end wrench to steady the outlet side of the filter and a flare nut wrench to unscrew the fuel line nut, then separate the outlet line from the filter while noting the installed position of the O-ring. Using a flare nut wrench will help to avoid rounding the corners off of the fuel line nut. Detach the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt and remove the fuel filter. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note: Be sure to install a new O-ring on the outlet line before reassembling. "Squeeze the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs together and pull the inlet line (A) away from the filter, then detach the outlet line (B) from the fuel filter - unbolt the filter mounting bracket to remove the fuel filter".

Need to replace the fuel filter on my 2005 grand prix

the fuel filter is located on the drivers side inside the frame rail, sort of underneath the passenger seat area. it looks slightly smaller then a soda can. there is a bracket that holds it on, held in place by a 13mm bolt. one line is connected with a 16mm nut into the 20mm fitting on the filter, the other end is a plastic quick release fitting, released by pinching the 2 tabs - you will see what i mean when you see it. good luck!

Release the fuel pressure by loosening the gas cap, raise and support the car on jack stands, squeeze the plastic tabs on the male end of the connector, and pull the connector apart. Some models have 2 tabs, and others have 1 and the fuel line screwed into the other side.Remove filter mounting bolt, unhook tab from frame and remove filter. when you put in the new filter, make sure the arrow is pointing toward front of engine. On the line with plastic tabs, just push on till you hear a click, then pull on it to make sure it's latched.Don't forget to tighten gas cap.

The fuel filter is located under the rear of the car, rearward of the fuel tank. Remove the quick connect fitting by pushing inward toward the fuel filter and grasping plastic tab around the connector and pull apart. The other end should need a couple of wrenches. Installed new reverse order.
