Jeep wrangler driving with soft top windows open

Hi there,
I took my soft top jeep wrangler on the freeway yesterday and had the windows up to conserve energy and make it more streamlined on the drive (... well, as streamlined as a Jeep can be :)
Rolled the windows down and the sound was like the jeep was thundering inside with all the wind drag.
Am I right in thinking that rolling up the back window will make for a more streamlined ride for air to come in and then head out the back?
I am looking for tips to make driving this Summer more efficient and having some air coming in as the Wrangler is pretty old and lacks AC.
Lastly, the sound of air coming the windows making the roof flap made me worry that the roof might fly off -- someone tell me that that sound is natural and that these things are generally noisy...
thanks in advance for your help

Adjustments can alter the CD* of a box.
If you close side windows but leave top and back off, the noise is very tolerable.
I am working on wind vanes/foils etc to direct wind over hood and windshield better.
It's all experimental: imagine a bugscreen up front and another mounted on top of windshield or roll bars to direct the wind.
Think like a plane and fly like a bird.

Yes soft top jeeps can be very loud. Honestly your probably better off just leaving the top off. No matter what you do to the jeep it is not going to be more streamlined.

check this site out from nasa it explains aerodynamics pretty well.

http://www.nasa.gov/audience/forstudents/5-8/features/what-is-aerodynamics-58.html

The problem with jeeps and aerodynamics is they are completely flat in the front they are a giant wind sale. The drag created by air inside of the cab is going to be no worst than the drag created with out it.

Sounds like a vac leak, could be the power brake booster or a hose.

Rear soft top window is cracked. Can I just replace it or do I need an entire new soft top?

You can have the rear window replaced. Bring the top to canvas repair shop (boat canvas shop) and get a quote.

The small storage compartment in the back of my 2007 2-door jeep wrangler Rubicon is wet, soaked with water. Where is it coming from?

If your Jeep has a soft top -

I have a 2007 Unlimited and has the same problem. My Jeep is a soft top and the water came from the rain and a poor seal of the back window. Part of the problem came from the displacement of the plastic "c" shaped "rear window bar holder" that clips on to the rear on either side of rear window. Ocasionally the clip pops out of place and breaks the seal between the rubber on the window and the rear sides of the Jeep.

Soft top-1993 Jeep Wrangler YJ

OK I have a yj and you start from the windshield put the snaps/or what ever yours is on the top of the doors then down the side or the doors then under the back side window then around the curve and this is the hardest part then your tailgate also make sure your bars on the inside are loseuntil the top is on then thighting those bars and you should have a nice tight top but belive me it is hard and you might need a flathead screw driver for the corners. Good luck and a jeep wave to you!
