Question about 1993 Nissan Pathfinder

2 Answers

Location of dipstcks identify which one is which.

Hi I have a 93 Nissan Pathfinder that I just bought. I just checked the dipstick on the passenger side closest to where you fill the oil the dip stick said hot and cold on it it was clean fluid and the top of the dipstick was silver. On the drivers side dipstick it the top was yellow in color and had L on the end of the dipstck and H on the top for the fluid levels. I feel kind of stupid asking this but I just want to make sure so i know why the one with the yellow top on it has such dark liquids in it. I think it is the transmission fluid, if it is it is realy dirty clear blackish color in it.

thanks joe

there is a little dark smoke that comes out of the tail pipe after i give it some gas right after the car starts to idle again then a little smoke comes out then stops. Any ideas. someone told me that it might need a new head gasket I sure hope not.

The dipstick with a yellow handle on it, I think is the oil because it has L for low and H for high for the fluid measurement. It is kind of clear with a slight darkness to it. But then again it has 160.000 miles on it. There is also a little oil leaking from the valve cover gaskets, but I dont think it's enough to be worried about. Also every time I hit a pot whole in the road the car sounds like it it is hitting the ground every time. very loud and it's kind of hard to control the car when it happens. It does not feel like it has any suspension. If i push down on the front of the car repeatedly it make a clicking noise. Im worried a man told me that it needs air shocks because they have a hose hoked up to them in the front. I think nthey are going to be xpensive.

Hot and Cold is your transmission dipstick. High and Low is your oil dipstick. It is normal for oil to be dark after a couple hundred miles once the oil has been changed.

Not sure usually when its a head gasket you get white smoke. Could be loss of compression in the piston rings, or your valves are not seating properly. If you are not getting a CEL (check engine light) on I wouldn't worry about it to much. Most likely your are getting some blow by on the piston rings. Which means oil is going past them into the combustion chamber.

If that oil no longer has the viscosity i.e. no longer feels even slightly when the fingertips of the thumb and forefinger, or if rubbed gently in the finger feels even a bit grainy, even a hint to that effect, get it replaced immediately. " L " -- means low & " H " for high. Most probably that's gear oil, which is thick but has not black but let's say deep golden brown. Replace the oil.........sodeep

Now what u are saying is a problem with the Suspension, both spring & hydraulic shockers. The shockers must have lost it capacity to withstand Jerks, bumps, etc. This is due the hydraulic fluid loss due to a malfunctioning oil seal in the shocker it self. It time you changed the shocker, all at the same time, 'cos that is the thumb rule. The oil seems to be OK except that if it shows the level to be near the yellow mark, just top up till the level reaches thrree quarter mark between the L H marks......sodeep

If it's AUTOMATIC , then NO DIP STICK , as transmission fluid is put in, and capped , as it does not need replacing , like Engine oil.

Can't find where to add transmission fluid in a 2006 all wheel drive equinox

I am unfamiliar with exact car, however, It is not unusual for transmission oil to be put in via the the transmission dip stick tube - do not confuse it with the engine oil dip stick tube. Do it slowly and make sure you dont over fill or you will eventutally blow your transmission box seals or worse. Let the oil settle before checking levels too because it is easy to misread the dip stick when you have used the dip stick tube to fill oil in.

How do I check the transmission fluid on my 2009 F-150? Where is the dip stick?

This depends on what trany is in that truck, one has a dip stick tube with a normal dip stick to check the level and then the other trany has no dipstick theres a plug on the side of the trany where the tube would go , the plug need to be removed and to add fluid you would need a pump and small hose to pump it in, also these tranys take a certain type of fluid so check with your local dealer , the wrong fluid will damage the trany, the plug you remove will have a small stick on it to measure the level, when checking the level you dont put plug all the way in only the stick part goes in. here are a few diagram to show you the plug location and the stick to check level. hope this helps, be careful the plug is near exhaust and truck must be at operating temp and truck on level ground to check the level. good luck, hope this helps.johnjohn2_2.pngjohnjohn2_3.pngjohnjohn2_4.png

How to check and add transmission fluid in a 2001 nissan frontier

Im guessing this is an automatic, theres a trany dipstick, engine should be at operating temp and the truck level remove the dip stick and wipe clean then reinsert and pull out the fluid should be in the hass maxs. if this truck is manual trans then the trany is checked from under the truck, remove the fill plug on the side of the trany and fill unttil oil runs out the fill hole. hope this helps.
