Question about 1997 Volkswagen Jetta
I have to keep my foot on the gas or the car will shut off.
You have a problem with the EMU or a small electric valve which controls the idle speed of the engine
When you take your foot off it is supposed to hold the engine at say 700- 800rpm
The fuel input be it petrol or diesel is metered to the engine under the control of the EMU
Have you had the battery off recently, if so there is more than a chance that you have lost the settings for the idle speed and pain in the **** that it is, you need a man with a laptop to check it out and set it up
