Static sound on AM band can be reduced by the adding of a capacitor to the alternator terminal. Check the coax cable especially the outside braid is connected to the body for earth

SOURCE: Radio on but no sound after installing after market subs

to create a spark you must have had power connected somewhere. Did you have your radio turned on when you connected? if yes you may have blown the amp in the radio. If no then you have other issues with wiring and possible damage.
It's one of those instances where I'd need to be there to diagnose it.
Start by double checking the stereo is working, check its wiring is correct try each speaker connection in turn. If the stereo works and all the outputs work then double check the amps wiring and try a normal speaker connected to it. You must get the picture by now, you need to identify the source of the fault. to help you better I'd need a wiring diagram.

WHY DOES MY 2004 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR HAVE EXCESSIVE RADIO STATIC ON AM?

As suggested it could be underhood electrical interference. If the "static" changes with increased rpms (rev the motor to find out) chances are it is ignition related and could be literally everything from the alternator to the ignition coil through the distributor cap, but best bet is the spark plug wires (which if still original really should be replaced anyway) or the plugs themselves. If your am static doesn't change with engine revolutions and your fm works okay I would check antenna and the antenna connections at the base of antenna and back of radio. if you cant even get a clear signal on the most powerful AM station in your area, I would bet on some kind of break in the connection between radio and antenna. p.s. if you;ve anything plugged into cigarette lighter or other 12volt outlets in the vehicle unplug them before doing any of the rest!

Radio static

Check your antenna. If the mast is not extended, your reception will be limited. try an AM station, usually a local AM station will still come in even with the mast down. Have you tried playing a CD (if equipped) ? If that plays well, you've confirmed lack of reception as the problem. If the mast is extended and you still do not have reception, the antenna plug my have come out of the back of the radio. The requires removing the radio to check.

Fm works but no am. i tried connecting an alpine stereo but still fm works but no am

This problem will only deal with the antenna cable correctly connected behind the unit and up to the exterior roof antenna. Any break in the harness may cause this effect. In early VW's when the antenna was located on the front left fender, owners were complaining of poor reception and static interference from the ignition coil near by. Besides hearing your AM station you also hear electrical noise which changes pitch as you increase the engine speed while keeping FM unaffected. The solution was insulation and relocating the antenna at the farthest part of the vehicle, rear roof. Make sure you have the the right connector for your unit to make a perfect connection.

I own a 2005 jetta with a factory rady, cassette

you can try a AM/FM antenna booster if you know how to get to the back of the radio. Otherwise the radio ground needs to be checked out and the antenna ground would need to be tested to see if there was corrosion on the antenna base or the connector to the back of the radio. On some cars the antenna is located in bad area and they don't get the signal boost off of the cars ground plane The more reflective surface you have on the car the more radio waves will bounce back and increase signal strength. Also Depending on atmospheric conditions and skip conditions sun spots and other natural occurring things can cause poor reception. The signal booster is about $10.00 at any radio Shack or any auto parts store. Hope this helps.

AM radio has constant static -- FM is perfect, as is the sound system. The AM radio has no static when engine is not running. Please help

the cause of this is a defective is due to one of the following:
1. Antenna is defective or Antenna coax lead to radio shield ground
2. Antenna ground is dirty or corroded
3. Poor radio chassis ground.

No am reception and poor fm reception - 2004 Kia Sedona

If the antenna is on the front, pop the hood, and locate where the antenna wire connects to the bottom of the antenna and make sure it is connected well. If everything checks out there, you will have to pull the radio from the dash, and look at the back of it. There will be a large black wire by itself connected to the radio. Push it in to make sure its connected as well. That could really be your only problem unless your radio happens to have a fault on the inside which is extremely rare. Hope that helps
