Question about 1997 Saturn SL

1 Answer

97 saturn sl will not shift from park easily, automatic.

My girlfriend's saturn has been getting harder and harder to shift out of park after sitting for a decent amount of time. Once running and parked again it will shift right into gear once restarted. Its only when it sits for 3+ hrs that I encounter problems. Please Help, I need to keep this car on the road!

Its when I try to shift the automatic shifter from P to D. It just locks into Park, I press the brakes and the button on the side and the shifter stays in P.

Is the shifter becoming difficult to move or is the car not moving after you shift into gear?

Bad automatic trans shifter solenoid, located under the console between the seats.....quick fix while waiting for a new solenoid is simply unhook the lever from the automatic trans solenoid.

2009 Astra, automatic, starts, wont shift out of park, just clicks. is it a fuse? something easy to fix?

I would start by checking the brake light bulbs and fuses because thats what releases the parking pin.

My key is stuck in the ignition of my 1997 saturn SL can turn neither the steering wheel or my kets what can I do

I had this problem when my 97 sc1 was first given to me. It turned out to be in the automatic trans shifter anti theft switch. I just removed center console and disarmed it. try slamming shifter into park and see if it makes a difference, don't forget to push in on the key a little before turning.

I want to know how to remove the shift lever knob on a 97 saturn sl1---- there arent any little allen head bolts and i dug a groove in the plastic trying to turn it off--- how do you get the damn thing...

If console shift....On the shank of the shift lever were you can't see a horse shoe shape clip is pushed into the Handle towards the bottom of the shank portion. You need to pry it out keeping a magnet very close to this part. It can be lost easily. This clip is facing the front of the handle of course which is hard to see
If column shift the lever is sold with the knob only

97 Celica - Key stuck in accesory position

while in park, press shifter firmly even farther above park. Hold shifter and turn key.
The linkage may need adjusting. If this does not help the situation, then the pins inside the ignition are not getting pressed down because key is getting worn. You can try to tap around the ignition lightly with hammer to shake the pins loose.

1998 Saturn Sl 1 Won't start some times.

I could not find any diagrams.......but it may be the park lock cable.. or you could have something jammed underneath the shifter.... a penny....or some other misplaced object that can slip underneath the cracks and cause it to not go into park all the way....the center console is fairly simple to remove a few bolts and I think a couple pop rivets.... a Haynes Manual on all the s series Saturns is available at your local auto parts store (advanced auto, auto zone, Pepboys) it'll run you like 20 bucks but will definately prove helpful to you ... Im looking at mine right now and it shows you how to completely tear it down and rebuild it.
