Question about Land Rover Freelander

LandRover Freelander won't start

I have a FreeLander 1999 1.8, FREELANDER XEI S-WAGON and it won't start. It cranks but no sparks at spark plugs? Not sure if it's the coil pack or immobilizer. Can you advice? Many Father inlaw in an attempt to fix reserve light switch. inadvertently shorted a (3 pin cable) going in to the gearbox (if looking at engine, on right-hand side, you can see cable as only one there). Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Regards, Josh. Can send photo of 3 pin cable that got shorted if required. I’d like to know what this 3-pin cable is anyway. Please help.

I have checked all the fuses and 100% sure it's the Freelander CMP Camshaft Position Sensor. I've got a hold of a workshop manual to confirm it. Thanks for you advice though. (I'm becoming a bit of car machinc in this learning process, Sad i know). Thanks again. Photo's attached to confirm the device in the red elipse is CMP.

My Father in-law bless him thought he has helping by trying to fix my reserve light switch in gear box (I still don't know where the gear box switch is though as can't see the gearbox?) anyway in the red ellipses above he short circuited the Red/white cable with the black one out of the three. The other cable is coloured plain white. This i believe has changed something as there was a mechanical noise for a couple second.

Does a 2000 land rover freelander 1.8 xei have a camshaft position sensor or a crank angle sensor

Cam senso and crank sensor are at front of engine behind the grillto the right of centre looking at front of vehicle. this model has an inertia switch whichcuts fuel supply if you have had a decent bump recently. It is located on pass side strut tower. have you checked the immobiliser system? it has a deadlock or super immobiliser system. manual should tell you about this. wont hurt to check all fuses under bonnet and in passanger compartment. If all above are OK then you can check voltage at coilpak. orange wire is the voltage supply and the black with white trace is the pulse. good luck

1999 chev blazer won't start new fuel pump

So, do you hear the pump buzz on, when key is on? If that's good, then check your ignition circuit: check for spark at a plug. Use insulated pliers, hold end of plug wire 1/4 inch form engine bolt or ground source. When cranked, you should see a bright blue spark. Yes? Try another plug wire, too. No? Try another plug wire. If you have NO spark, could be your coil, coil pack, crank position sensor, ignition module. I would recommend using a diagnostic flow-chart to go through the ignition circuit. That way, you are not replacing unecessary parts_Expensive! Of course, if you have spark at plugs, your ignition circuit is good! Then you have to look further, like your injector circuit. Good luck.

98 durango is turning over but won,t start, could it be pump or injector. i can hear the pump

On the fuel rail you will see a shrader valve, press that while someone cranks the engine to see if there is fuel pressure, check if there is spark at the spark plugs. You need fuel and spark to start. Let me know.

1999 saturn wagon, sputters and jerks when accelerates.

Check you spark plug wires, spark plug, and distributor cap and rotor. Make sure the spark plugs are gapped correctly and they do not look worn or fouled. Find a relatively dark place, start the engine, raise the hood, and look for blue arcs (sparks). A little windex sprayed on the wires will enhance this effect. If you see these sparks, replace the wires, and your problem should go away.

Won't start

Grab a spark plug, any spark plug even a spare for your lawn mower, and plug it into any spark plug wire, and lay it on the valve cover. Crank it over and have somebody verify rather or not there is spark, obviously you don't want to hang on to the plug or wire. After spark is or isn't there get back to me and we'll continue to trouble shoot.
