You are obviously going to change the pads as well...once the caliper has been removed, give the rotor a smack with a hammer and it should come right off the hub. Sometimes a bit of wd40 or other solvent around the hub and into the hole around the wheel studs is needed to get them free. If you have never done brake work before, get a basic manual like will help a lot.

If there is enough material on the pads, take a piece of 60grit sandpaper and place it on a flat surface. Do figure 8's with each pad on there to get a new surface to mate properly with rotor. You should be fine.

Focus abs ring replace

the abs ring sensor is usually best changed by renewing the brake disc as these are hydraulicaly pressed onto the brake disc and try to remove and refit new is practically impossable without causing some sort of damage , you have to remove the brake disc anyway so just get a new one and you know everthing is ok , i should mention that best practise is to replace the brake pads (both sides ) when renewing disc's , you can't take a chance with brakes, i know it will cost a bit more but look online for the parts, will be at least 50% cheaper than local shop, and you will be sure the brakes are good

Rear disc brakes on 02 ford focus, does the pistons have to be wound in with a special tool

Hello sallypark740,

Yes there is a special tool required to compress the caliper piston.

The tool turns and compresses the piston at the same time.

I have a 2003 toyota corolla S edition. I need to get the rear brakes replaced, but when I went to the parts store for rotors and pads, they told me I might need drums and shoes. How can I find out what...

The best way would be to remove the wheel and see if you have drums or discs. Disc brakes on the rear will look like the front brakes, as discs are required on the front of 1970 vehicles and newer. You will see the rotor which will be shiny where the pads have rubbed it. On a drum, it will look like a rusty metal bowl facing away from you. If you have custom wheels you may be able to see through the spokes, but dust guards will not let you tell from the back.

When i move the car, it grinds badly and feels like in wheels, its a ford focus. it does it backwards to

Your brake pads or shoes, have worn past the pad lining, and now the steel backing is ginding against your rotor or drum.
You will have to have the brakes inspected.
Please let me know what you find.

2001 Focus zx3 rear brakes- pads or drums???

If they look like a smaller version of your front brakes where you can see the disc (should be shiny on the side of the disc where the pad touches the rotor) then you have disk brakes.

If it's all black, or all kinda of rusted looking and all you see is a "cap" over everything behind the rim, then it'll be a drum...

95% of the zx3's have drums
only 5% of zx3's had discs. The ones that have disc brakes, also came with traction control as part of the package.

If steering wheel shakes during braking the rotors are warped and should be replaced. If the rotors have grooves from the old pads they should also be replaced. No shakeing or grooves the rotors should be fine to use again.
