Question about 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix

When truck is in park, sometimes won't start

2000 Dodge Ram. Sometimes the truck won't even turn over when you try to start it. I have to move the gear shift around to make sure it is in park. Is there a way to tighten the linkage so that it goes all the way into park or is it another problem?

Try putting it in neutral before putting it in drive. the pump doesn't engage in park and sometimes the fluid leaks back out of the torque converter. I have the same problem in my 2004 Ram 3500 and 70 Challenger.

My 2001 dodge ram 1500 with 5.2L sometimes slips in overdrive. what could be causing it

Assuming its an automatic. Check the Transmission fluid first and foremost. Follow the instructions on the dip stick. If the fluid turns out alright then sorry to say but the clutch plates inside the transmission are going out. Transmission fluid could smell burnt. I had a 2000 ram and at 82000 miles thats when it started doing the same thing. I drove it til it wouldn't move forward or back.

If you are getting a 'no bus' signal and a no start, then you may have a sensor that is shorted. Start by disconnecting sensors on the vehicle one at a time and trying to start the vehicle after disconnecting each one, if it doesn't start, reconnect the one you've disconnected and disconnect another and try to start again. Start with your Oxygen sensors first and then move on from there. If this doesn't work then there is a problem in the circuit but I've seen this problem on numerous Chryslers and it usually is always a bad sensor. Once you isolate the bad sensor, replace it and problem should be fixed. Good luck.

Put your vehicle in Neutral then back to park and see if it fires up...Sometimes this is all it takes.
