The oil change should likely not have anything to do with the engine light.  Have you had the code read to see what the problem is?  If not, please take the vehicle to your local auto parts store and have them read the code for you and let us know what it is.  Thanks!

Hello and thanks for choosing FixYa.com

The service engine light means there is a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) stored by the vehicle's computer. This could be anything from a faulty sensor to a bad exhaust system. You should have the codes retrieved by a diagnostic scanner. Most part stores will do this free of charge and give you the code numbers. Once you get the numbers, let me know what they are and I can further troubleshoot the issue for you.

You can try to disconnect your battery for about 5 minutes and that will usually reset the computer.

Service engine soon light

The service engine soon could be an indicator that you need to have minor maintenance done in the near future. I had a Grand Am that the service engine light would turn on when I was getting close to needing an oil change. You might check your owners manual for an exact reason as to why it turns on.

Running fine, but then service engine light comes on

The warning light could be for problems with the computer, not the engine per say.
I would have the computer scanned for trouble codes by your local auto parts store.

it could be both but im guessing that you changed the oil before the exact time for it to be done . if so have some one reset the light for you im not sure exactly how to do it on the 03 century if you have the drivers manual it will tell you how to reset it.

How do i reset service engine light?

Hello.
To reset the computer to where it will shut that light off, you have to removed the battery terminals for 15-20 minutes and them put them back on. That brings the computer to a reset making it start off new again, so basically it will think it had a new oil change and everything. Hope this helps!

if you have changed oil recently (the warning is for oil life) it needs to be reset just like service reminder.

How it reset service engine light

Is it the "oil change req." light? Your owners manual will have the process for reseting the oil change light.
If it is "service engine soon" light, the vehicle will need to be scanned with a professional scanner.
