It could be the oil pan gasket, or, as it was in my case, the oil pan on my 2005 Pathfinder actually rusted through. There were very tiny pinholes in the metal pan. It was not horrible to replace the pan myself.
The service and repair manual with pictures and diagram will fix all the facing problem on your own and you will get the manual from the given link https://toolsnyou.com
Do you need to replace the oil pan it self or just the oil pan seal? This can been a DYI job, depending on your experience working with cars. You will need a your basic tools. (Jack Stands, Jack, Oil Container, wrenches and sockets, new oil and filter.) The first thing you will need to do is drain the oil. This is a good time to change your oil since you will be taking the oil pan completely off. Steps to removing oil pan 1) Set car on jack stands or ramps in order to work under the car. (Be Safe, Be Smart!) 2) You will need a wrench or socket to remove oil drain plug and drain the oil out of the car -This is a good time to change your oil, so replace oil filter as well. 3) Once the oil is drained you can take of the oil pan off. Most oil pans are just bolted. Not to hard to take of. 4) Once off this is a good time to clean the oil pan if your just replacing the gasket. Do not use lubricant cleaners like wd-40. Brake cleaner has worked for me, you can also ask your local auto shop or autozone for a good cleaner. 5)Replace the oil pan with new gasket making sure there are no tears in gasket and it sits well between the oil pan and engine block. (Make sure there is nothing in the oil pan as well that could cause harm) 6) once you replaced the oil pan its just as simple as putting oil back into your car like you are changing your oil.
This is not an question that can answered in this forum...it's too involved and takes mechanical skills. I know these cars have always had oil leaks, and was a constant problem. Take it to a good tech for inspection or repair.
This is what I found on my 1998 with a 3.0 motor
Most likely you have a rusted pan with a hole on the passenger side of pan, clean
the oil pan real good and inspect it real good and check for small
leaks,
Also the transmission pan is also known to rust through on the left side top and bottom, Salt and brime plays heck on all pans and brake lines
1.put car on a lift. 2.Drain oil. 3.make sure to have exact oil pan ready with seal in hand. 4.unscrew the bolts in a x fashon. 1-6 3-4 2-5 remove oil pan. 4.Clean all around where the oil pan used to be. 5.Attach new seal and oil pan. hand tighten all the bolts in a X fashon then tighten with a wrench or socket. 6.make sure oil drain plug is on good. 7. put new oil in typically 5 quarts. 8.put car on ground 9. All done.
What motor is in it? Mostly have to take all the oil pan bolts out, undo the motor mounts and raise the motor up enough for the oil pan to clear the cross member. make sure you don't have too much in the way when you raise the motor, as you may break something.
