Question about 2001 Ford Escort ZX2

OBD2problem My probleem is the scanner and the port are not communicating.When the scanner is plugged in,nothing happens.

    how can I tell if the port has been tampered with to fool the emissions test?

    Ok Thanks, I'll look tomorrow, The inspection station tried and Auto Zone tried so I'm guessing it must be an electrical problem.

    I checked the fuse under the hood and it is not blown but I haven't checked to see if power is going to it or not

    Here is a list of lights that come on then go off after I start the engine,low fuel,service engine soon,brake seatbelt,battery,oil,and check fuel cap,As of right now I do not have the right fuel cap on the car. Not sure if the check engine and service engine light is the same

    can i test the port to see if power is going to it? If so, which wire is the hot one?

    I checked all the connections and I did not find one that lit up the test light.that was before you said it might be the green wire, I will look again to see if I can find the gr one. Checked the odb fuse under the hood again and I'm getting power on both sides of it, so I'm assuming the problem might be between the fuse block and the connection port.

    I found the green wire and checked it at plug under the dash and there was no power on that pin,Any other sugestions?

    can I run a seperate wire from the fuse to the plug just to check and see if it will work the scanner or will that harm something ?

    You can jump it as you're saying, but make sure you're jumping the correct wire. As I stated, my wiring diagram is from a 2000. As long as you know you have the correct wire, you can jump it from there, and plug in your scanner and see if you get power.

    Did you try to identify the color of the wire coming from the fuse? If
    you did, and it's solid green, then you need to find the break in that
    wire from the fuse, to the obd2 connector. Otherwise, identify the
    color from the fuse to the obd2, and see if there is a break in that
    wire.

    If you don't find a solid green, try to identify the color from the fuse, and see if you get continuity from it to the obd2 connector.

    My diagram only covers through 2000 models, but it says the hot is "solid green". I'll try to find a newer diagram.

    check engine, and service engine are the same. Did you see any cut wires or no?

    Does your check engine light come on when you turn the key to the "on" position without starting the vehicle?

    Look for cut wires that connect to the obd2 up under the dash. There is no reason you shouldn't get a reading from your scanner, unless your scanner itself is broken.

    It sounds like your obd2 port has been tampered with to pass, or try to "fool" emissions.

Why does my truck not communicate with the scanner?


in most other models that have an error trying to connect to an obd2 scanner is there's something wrong in the ground circuit in your vehicle. one has to painstakingly trace those grounds to make sure they're clean/ not corroded... then go from there

2006 Solaria: went for annual inspection. They said "not ready" and couldn't read computer. No problems with battery; haven't replaced since last inspection. They FAILED me but no idea...


It depends on what actually happened at the inspection station.
If the scanner showed the computer was "not ready" the engine was not warmed up or had not been driven far enough.
If the scanner could not communicate with your computer, you could have a blown fuse for the ALDL connector the scanner plugs into.

When I plug my scanner in to the dlc the scanner turns on with the key off but when i turn the key on the scanner has no power and won't communicate i had a blown fuse and replaced it but still...


all diagnostic link connectors with 16 terminals the the 16th terminal bottom far right the OBD 2 DLC IS THE 12 VOLTS POWER SOURCE TO POWER UP SCANNER.IF YOU NOT GETTINNG 12 VOLTS AT 16TH TERMINAL YOU HAVE PCM PROBLEMS.

2008 Pontiac g6 ecm port under the dash, when code reader is plugged in it gives a link error? Any ideas what to troubleshoot


is your code reader "can" ready? the newer cars communicate to scanners using different protocols and your scanner may not have that protocol. have you scanned the vehicle using this scanner before? also check fuses as most manufacturers use the cigaret lighter fuse to power the "dlc" data link connector.

Where do you plug in a actron obd scanner ?


The connector is located on the drivers side just above the parking brake pedal.

When we put it on the machine to read the computer, nothing happen. what is wrong with it.


you must check your fuses under the hood, usually one is blown that feeds power to that plug

Dont worry about wire checks at this point. If the "no bus" message went away after disconnecting the sensor, then the sensor is bad. Replace the crank sensor and all will be good in the world again.

you might have a bad transfer case servo motor,or vacume switch(on t-case)
a scanner at an aoutoshop will tell!
