On acceleration the engine stutters like it's ready to quit. Could this be a fuel pump problem beginning?

After the engine has had some time to warm up and the car is driven is when I have noticed this. After slowing and trying to accelerate there is a stutter as if the engine is going to quit but hasn't yet. I wonder if this is a fuel pump problem but I'm not sure.

Change the plugs and plug wires. Don't skimp on replacement components, especially electrical. You get what you pay for. Good luck!

Sounds like you have a fuel pump problem, sometimes when they are defective it just does'nt quit it will not produce the pressure needed to get the fuel to the injection system when accelerating.

I have a 1989 Toyota Corolla, 5 speed manual;

I would look at the fuel delivery system. Change the fuel filter if it hasn't been done lately. Also get the fuel pressure checked. I don't have the specs but it could be that your fuel pump is getting worn and occasionally has trouble pumping enough fuel to the carb. It's also possible that your carb may need to be overhauled. They do wear and get build up in the pasages over time. Also check to see if your warm air valve in the air cleaner is working. It is possible that your carb is icing up in the cold weather and it is more likely to happen at highway speed.
If you need to get the carb overhauled take it to a shop that specializes in this type of work. You will be glad you did when you get it back.
Hope this helps.

Car gets warm and starts hesitating on acceleration

Hi,
this could be something in the fuel pump. As the cold motor draws more fuel, it may just be just ok for the engine, but after it is warm, it draws less and may "suffocate" it that way. Same goes for air filter, take a peek if it is not ready for replacement. Has this happened suddenly, or has it occurrend during a long perion of time?

Re: 2003 audi a6 not cranking when cold

try running lighter weight oil in the winter time, if the oil is too cold the starter will have to work extra hard to turn the engine over and sometimes this will cause fuel problems because the injectors are timed with the engine.

Check ignition timing, timing chain, fuel filter and fuel pressure after you change it. ( if the filter doesn't solve it)
