There should be a lip on the handle that holds the button. You may have to get a new handle or one from a salvage yard.

The light is flashing because a fault has been detected. Your best bet is to take it somewhere, where it could be diagnosed

My '96 Suburban 1500 4x4 won't shift into 4 wheel drive. When I push the button for 4 Hi the light just flashes and stays in 2 wheel drive.

the electric shift motor on transfer case is bad, replace and it will work great. if your at all mechanically inclined you can do this very easy. before unbolting motor disconnect battery to reset computer install part, should only take you 15 min maybe then hook up battery and you will have 4 wheel drive again. good luck

When push button for 4 wheel drive the front end want ingage and the button just keeps flashing

Have you tried putting it in Neutral, then selecting 4-low. That's what we have to do on our 2000 Chevy Blazer. Same with going from 4-low to 4-high or 4-low to 2 high. It will shift from 2-high to 4 high on the fly (not in Neutral) and back.

When you press the shift on the fly button s on the dash for 4 wheel drive the light keeps flashing but after 2 or 3 flashes it is suppose to stop. It seem like the 4 wheel drive isn't fully engaging.

If the light is continuing to flash the 4X4 is not engaged, most likely the motor that engages it on the transfer case is either stuck or defective.

Flashing warning lamp mode "W" engaged

1. Either push the button on the mid console behind the shift lever or move the shift lever to drive.

2. If this does not work then it is the wire going to the transmission or possibly the relay.
