Question about 1988 Pontiac Grand Am

2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT sunroof problems

The sunroof clicks as its opening, and then it doesn't seem to open all the way. It closes but it goes kind of slow and it sounds like it hits the metal when its closed. Also when I push open once it doesn't "pop up" anymore, it hardly moves. What is going on?? Do I need a new motor or is there a way to reset this? Thanks!

The sunroof wont open all the way

The problem probably is the track for the sunroof. I have seen this problem with grand ams. I have had to replace them to fix the problem.

The sunroof is tilted open and won't close. When

Sounds like sunroof is stuck, motor can't overcome load. Cheap test: car off, interior light turned on try to move sunroof, does light dim? If yes motor is trying to move but can't. If light does not dim then motor not getting power.

My sunroof won't close, is it the fuse? If so,

If the sunroof only opens but does not close the problem is the relay or the motor itself, try replacing the relay of this does not work, try replacing the roof motor.

Sun roof won't close

the limiter switch on your sunroof has died. common to gm's.

you will have to replace the entire motor assembly as the limiter switch is built into the motor assembly.

you can do it yourself of take it to a reputable reapir shop.

Leak!

There should be a rubber lining around the sunroof. That might need to be replaced, if not pull it almost completly off (dont pull it off all the way because its not fun to realign). Go to Lowes and pick up some clear sefl squeeze bathroom caulk and inject it inside the rubber fold. Then reapply. This actually worked on my buddies sunroof.
