My 2003 ford focus speedometer stops working sometimes as does the elecyric odometer- sometimes both at same time. Other gauges work fine. The odometer goes to just dashes in place of the actual mileage...

Usually if both the odometer and speedometer stop working, the problem is the speed sensor on the transmission. You should also have a trouble code in the engine computer.
If one component works but the other does not, the problem is usually the speedometer head in the dash.

The gauges on dashboard are not working

Sound like a fuse blow problem; I suggest check and test each fuse acco4rding with the fuse description in the Owners Manual.

Other choice could be some loss harnesses connections, will need take off the dashboard to check it.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2001 VW Polo 1.6 classic. My speedometer would often cut out and stop working, now my entire dashboard is dead, (including the digital odometer which is stuck) even my indicator lights don't work....

Sometimes when the spark plug cables are dying (or are from a lousy manufacturer) it affects the dashboard. Happened to me when i had a 97 Polo, check that, it could be the same problem.

What do I do if I the gas gauge and speedometer doesnt work?

No help but my gauges stopped working at about the same time on my '98 Frontier. So far, the fuel, temp., speedometer, odometer and trip gauges don't work or some work at different times after starting the engine.

Gas gauge, speedometer etc. on my 2000 Xterra quit working all of the sudden. The next day worked fine.

Same just started happening on my 2000 Xterra. Searching internet shows that many users report the same exact issue. Some owners report a similar issue where the car also loses power when gauges cut out, but that does not occur on mine.

When I took mine to shop for diagnosis, they could not repro (since it only happens after driving approximately 30 mins at highway speed).

Some internet forum users suggest that you should try to use a pencil eraser to clean the connectors of the cluster (component including dashboard gauges), but my mechanic suggested that this is not a likely fix for the issue, and is a large job as it still requires dis-assembly of most of the dash. I assume it may be a big job but I am not sure of exact details. Has anyone attempted this exact fix on their 2000 Xterra, solving the issue?

My shop researched their www.identifix.com online database of reported issues and found some 5000 reports of same issue with 2000 Xterra (this is a members-only database used by auto shops to share research, results, fixes).

The suggested fix based on all identifix shop feedback is 2 new Nissan parts:
- Replace 248147Z062 UNIFIED CONTROL BR 279.63
- Replace 248209Z00 Speedo Head 301.97
- Reprogram miles on new odometer 58.33

Rough estimate with labor comes out near $1000.

On one forum, a user posted the following:
'Solution: I replaced the printed circuit board located on the back of the instrument cluster. This required the dealer to order part & have odometer reading programmed into the new board. This seemed to have corrected the problem.'

That forum solution sounds like approximately the same fix suggested by my mechanic (but possibly solved it without needing one of the parts suggested by my mechanic).

Bottom line - My mechanic and I agree that the issue is not worth fixing for almost $1000. I will live with issue.

If anyone has a fact-based, first-hand, tested solution that is cheaper, please suggest. I have read many forums and only appreciate feedback if someone has addressed the exact issue on their 2000 Xterra. No arm-chair quarterback suggestions please.
Thanks!

Dashboard on Honda Civic 2002 not working

There is 2 harnesses near the bottom of the steering column that you should check. Also change the block fuses in fuse box.
