ok say all the brake lights are working properly and fuses are fine and the self test in the manual says that there is no problems detected what would be the next step?

    1. Visually inspect the vehicle. Any after market modifications, including but not limited to those listed below, may cause speed control to not operate correctly:

      • Any wiring or lamp modifications affecting brake lamp operation
      • LED brake lamps
      • Non-factory installed trailer wiring
      • Radios (speed sensitive, auto mute)
      • Remote starters and alarms
      • Lighting and electrical accessories modifications

    2. Visually inspect the servo and accelerator controls:

      • Visually inspect speed control cable without removing and ensure smooth cable operation. Inspect cable connection to the throttle body
      • Visually inspect accelerator cable without removing and ensure smooth cable operation. Inspect cable connection to throttle body. Also check for interference with carpet, bulkhead grommet, insulation, and instrument panel wiring

Check all the brake lights on the car. On quite a few Ford vehicles, if all your brake lights don't work, it disables the cruise control, including the 3rd brake light. I don't know why they wired the system this way, but they did. I don't know if your vehicle is one of them, but I know on some of their vehicles, if the system doesn't sense the continuity through the lamps it disables the cruise control. I don't know if this will fix your problem but it's a place to start.

Cruise control not working

My 2002 Focus cruise control doesn't work either. From what I've read, it can be a switch down at the brake pedal, or a fuse in the fuse box.

My 2002 Ford Focus brake lights stay on in drive, cruise control doesnt work and the hatch button in car doesnt work. I noticed the middle rear brake light is also out.

If you brake lights stay on and the cruise control doesn't work then I would be looking at the brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal as if there is power passing through it then it cuts out the cruise control. The same as if you put your foot on the brake cuts out the cruise control. The hatch button will be another problem like a fuse or broken cable or failed latch solenoid. As to the rear middle brake light try checking the bulb first.

2002 merc villager speedometer doesn't work, tach OK

The speedometer is electronic and controlled by a micro processor, the needle is operated by a special DC electric motor called a "stepper" motor, this little motor can cause this problem as well as the Vehicle speed sensor on the transmission (see photo below), either part can cause the problem, the cruise not working would lead me to believe the speed sensor is defective, but you should have a Check Engine light on and a fault code for the sensor, do you have either? Autozone and others do the fault code test for free, ask for an OBD2 fault test. Here is the picture of the sensor I mentioned.

Cruise dont work and 3 brake light dont work

Hello carrollrll,

Fix the third brake light and that should resolve the cruise control issue.

The cruise control circuit that deactivates the cruise is through the third brake light.

get a plug spanner (more a socket than a spanner) and after removing the plug lead, use the spanner to remove the plug. Do one at a time so you dont get the leads mixed up or it will not start.

Ford Focus ZX5...

Yes, did. It turned out to be a short in the wires that powered the center brake light. This short caused power to be refed back through the brakelight switch and through the GEM. Once this was fixed everything started working again, including the cruise control.
