Check engine light on

On a 2008 Mitsubishi Evolution, I am getting the TPS light and also a check engine soon light coming on. I don't have the tire pressure monitors on the car. I put air in the tires and the check engine light went off for 1/2 day and then came back on. Tire pressures are fine, but on sensors on the wheels. Do you think I have 2 issues here or just the TPS?? FYI - just bought the car. It has a custom ECU Map and exhaust.

The TPMS warning will come on as long as you do not have the tire pressure sensor installed and working. There is no way around it as it is now a Federal safety device.

You need to have the check engine light code pulled to know where to go with it. The fact that you have custom map and exhaust may be an issue, depending on how it was done. No way of knowing without knowing the code though.

Who did the reflash and custom map? Ave them pull the codes and get to the bottom of what is causing the SES light. Many time the ECU just lights up all the lights. If the code is from the airflow maps not being correctly adjusted with the extra power you have, then one of the problems that the ECU thinks it has is a TPS fault.

The ECU is programmed to look for matching boost, airflow and throttle position and compare it with torque. If everything does not match up, then it throws the lights and a code. But getting a custom remap, you went and messed with all that.

Go back and have a talk with yout tuner. He should be able to fix it up. If you bought the car with the tune, find an experienced EVO tuner in your area. East Coast would be Ivey Tune, AMS, Turbotrix, or TTP down in Fla. West coast would be GST in the bay area or Road Race Engineering in LA.

Air pressure in the tires drops when it is cold (as much a 5 PSI), as you drive they heat up and that makes them fall within the correct pressure limits to turn off the low tire pressure warning. I suggest you get an accurate tire gauge and air your tires up to 32 PSI all around.

You first have to find out what the OBD II codes are by using a OBD II hand held machine that goes through the codes and lets you know what is coming up. There are like over 20 or more things why the engine light came on so please use the OBD II code sensor hand held device which will tell you off the bat the answer to why the engine light came on. You can go to advance auto parts and have them check that out for you at no cost.

Service engine soon light came on and later that day turned off

The reason for the light to come on an the after you have switched the vehicle off and back on again and the engine light stays dead is because the control units of the vehicle will reset when the ignition is switched off for 10sec. If the light stays off the it might be that the car got a wrong reading from a sensor and caused the engine light to come on. If it was a serious problem the light would have come on again

''Check Engine Soon'' light Stays On.

Must have engine computer scanned to get codes and determine cause of check engine light. Low tire light probably needs reset. Open passenger door and remove panel on side of dash. Reset switch should be located in that compartment.
