Oldsmobile 88 will still not engage after putting in new starter.Even after checking the anti theft system. what can I check for next?

The ignition switch itself. You need to do some trouble shooting. On the starter solenoid you have the large positive battery cable and the smaller signal wire. You need to use a test light and have someone crank on the car while you probe the small wire for voltage with the switch in the crank position. Also make sure the neutral safety switch is operating. Use a test light to make sure power is going in and coming out.

I have 1992 isuzu pup truck.sometimes i turn the key to crank it and there is nothing noise wize,no clicking nothing.the dash lights come on,battery is good.i turn the key another time and it cranks r

you need an ignition switch. One way to figure it out is to turn the key to engage the starter, quickly........over and over, the "catch and start" will happen with no change and suddenly, its engaged. Or, keep the key in the START position, don't let up on it and hit the steering column with your fist, or the steering wheel. It may just be shorting out.

I turn my car key to the on position an my car starts up

Could be the starter relay or the starter itself.
How do you get it to stop cranking ?

1987 dakota, will not crank over, battery, starter fine, whats wrong?

If automatic could possibly be safety engage on shifter; or if automatic could be the safety switch on clutch. On auto try to rock vehicle and reengage shifter. Standard check clutch switch.

Starter problems for 88 ford aerostar van 7 passenger. how do i know its the starter or bad connection?

Test your battery and starter by doing a voltage drop test. Put one test lead of your meter on the neg side of your battery, one on the positive. Check voltage. Make sure that you are actually connecting to the battery itself and not the terminal ends. Should read 12.8-13.2. Keeping the neg in the same location move the pos to the terminal end, engage starter, meter should read above 10 volts. Continue testing down the pos wire to the starter, checking voltage, until you find less than 10 volts. If the voltage is good at starter, have someone turn key to the start position, tap starter with a hammer. if starter engages , replace starter.

I have a 2002 ford f350 7.3 diesel p/u. I have replaced 3 starters in three weeks. 50% of the time when I turn the ignition to on, the starter begins to crank. Also, starter will reengage while driving....

It almost sounds like something may be wrong with your Ignition switch. Other things to check would be wires going down to starter, wires at starter cellenoid on fire wall.

2002 jeep liberty cranks then dies sometimes cranks and is ok

If it runs ok while the starter is engaged and then shuts off after you let go of your ignition key you most likely have a bad starter solenoid. The solenoid is supposed keep the ignition circuit energized when the ignition switch is in the on position. Most of the time this is the problem.

When starting 1997 aspire in morning-delay in starting

Starter solenoid probably.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sequence of Operation

NOTE: An overrunning clutch in the drive assembly protects the starter motor (11002) from excessive speeds during the brief period before the driver releases the ignition switch (11572) from the START position (as the engine (6007) starts).

  1. The ignition switch is turned to the START position.
  1. The starter solenoid (11390) is energized, creating a magnetic field in the solenoid coil.
  1. The iron plunger core is drawn into the solenoid coil.
  1. A drive lever and pin (11067) connected to the drive assembly engages the starter drive (11350) to the flywheel ring gear.
  1. When the iron plunger core is all the way into the coil, its contact disc closes the circuit between the battery (10655) and the starter motor terminals.
  1. The current flows to the starter motor, and the starter drive cranks the flywheel (6375) and the crankshaft (6303).
  1. As current flows to the starter motor, the pull-in coil is bypassed.
  1. The hold-in coil keeps the starter drive engaged with the flywheel.
  1. The starter drive remains engaged until the ignition switch is released from the START position.
