1992 grand prix wont hold idle

I recently replaced the starter on my 92 grand prix 3.1L so I had the battery disconnected for two days. Now the car starts and runs fine but will not hold an idle when foot is off the gas. Is this a computer issue, having the batt disconnected made the computer "forget" something. Read about the "idle learn" procedure. How do I do this? No vacum lines off that I can see. Help please !

I replaced a motor in a 97 and the engine was out for a few weeks and I never had a problem with an idle when I put it back together with a whole new engine. I would guess you forgot to plug something back in by the starter. Recheck everything you have done I think this is something simple.

My 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix will not idle

the computer probably need to relearn the idle-try driving the car for 20-30 minutes,i u can. if that doesnt work, try keeping the car in drive at idle speed if possible without touching the gas pedal-even though it might stall, see if eventually the idle will raise up on its own.hope this helps you.

Stalling issues

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle rough idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
