Question about 2004 Toyota Avalon

1 Answer

Outlet in the center console not working

I presume that I need to replace a fuse. However, the owner's manual only shows the 3 locations for fuses without telling me in which fuse box I can find the fuse controlling the outlet in the center console. I can no longer charge my phone in the car or plug in the portable GPS . Do you have a listing of which fuse controls which electrical function in the car? The owner's book for our earlier Camry told us which controlled which function.

Thanks.

Dash board lights not working

Locate the knob or dial that controls the brightness of the dashboard lights. If the control is not immediately evident, check your owner's manual.

  • 2 Make sure the brightness control is turned on. If it is and the lights aren't working, the problem may be a bad fuse.
  • 3 Check the fuse that controls the dashboard lights (see How to Fix a Faulty Car Fuse). Replace the fuse if necessary.
Find the fuse box (see A). It is usually located under the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel, at about knee level. Many cars have additional fuse boxes in the engine compartment. Check your owner's manual or call the dealer for the exact location(s)

  • Open the fuse box cover and locate the blown fuse. There are two ways to find the bad fuse: Look for a fuse with a melted center strip (see B, which shows two types of broken fuses). Or, if you know which device isn't working--for example, the radio--look for the fuse that handles that device. The fuse panel may have labels for each device, or the information may be in your owner's manual.
  • 3 Remove the bad fuse with a fuse puller (a small pair of plastic tweezers that should come with the fuse box). Or use a pair of needle-nose pliers.
  • 4 Check the number on the bottom or side of the bad fuse. This indicates the amperage.
  • 5 Buy a new fuse with the same amperage and push it into the slot in the fuse box with your fingers.

Cannot locate where the fuse is that controls my cigarette lighter in front console and the passenger back seat. The lighter in the very back of my vehicle works. I want to replace the fuse. My lighter...

Hi, that fuse is in the box under the hood. See pic below. I think it's fuse 32. Fuse 45 also powers those outlets but also power a lot of other circuits. The fuse for the outlet in the very back of the car is on the interior fuse panel, #14. All of this information is in your owners manual. I had same problem, but it was 2 out of the 3 outlets that were not working. They were the ones in the center console. The one in the hatch remained operational. There is a fuse console under the hood, on the passenger side. One of these fuses was blown. I cannot remember which one it was. I used an ohm meter to test and locate the blown one. I think it was a 20 amp fuse, and once I replaced it, everything worked fine.

Radio and cigarette lighter do not get power

The fuse you are looking for might be in the fuse box under the hood. I think on or about page 203 of the owners manual it will show the locations of the fuse boxes. The one under the dash is a little tricky. Just figure out what by looking at the pattern of the fuse lay out. You are looking for a 15 amp(blue) fuse I believe.

After you fix that I would recomend using the power outlet. I believe there are 2. One just in front of the shifter and the other in the center armrest storage box.
