My ford explorer 1997 is having trouble reversing on the left front side it seems it sticks on the wheel but it drives in drive perfect and just had the tranny done,so it is in the front wheel well so far

Ok, put the vehicle in park apply the parking break and jack up the front wheels using jack stands remove the front tires! On the inside of the caliper are two slidebolts and on the bottom slidebolt there should be a bolt remove it and flip the caliper up to the top your brake pads if not worn down to nothing are held in place by a caliper anchor assembly try to turn the rotor by hand counter clockwise and clockwise if it turns then go to the passenger side and repeat! If it turns the next question is do you have four wheel drive or two? If four wheel drive then turning the rotor listen for any noise like grinding if you don't hear it on either side then you have what's called a brake hose with a deviated inner lining causing fluid to reach the caliper but returning to the master cylinder slowly? Replace the calipers by swinging them back down onto the rotor making sure your brake pads are back in place the bottom slide bolt may need to be pushed in to clear the caliper! Replace your keeper bolt but do not over tighten the retaining bolt use a torque guage or try to recall how much force you exerted to loosen the bolt! Overtightening the bolt will break it and loss of braking can result! If you still cannot move in reverse then the clutches in the transmission may be worn out or the reverse gear may be worn and rebuilding the transmission is required! First see if the wheels turn while you have the tires on the vehicle usually it is a bearing or a brake pad has met the end of its lufe and needs to be replaced? I hope this helps you!

How do i remove the caliper on a ford thunderbird 1997. I have done brake jobs before. Everyone knows the two bolts to remove to dislodge the old pads. Where these bolts usually are, I found two rubbe

Yes, pop out the rubber plugs ( dirt keeper outer's) and the caliper bolts are inside. They are Allen head bolts but I have seen a few with torx heads. Make sure to put the plugs back in when your done. I also like to put a dab of grease in there before I replace the plugs. (Stops rust). c5c1492a-1a81-42b9-b2e2-6174565e041a.jpg

How do I change front hub and bearing assembly on 2004 Explorer

Front hub bearing, remove tire, remove caliper and caliper holding bracket, you do not have to remove brake caliper from brake hose, just set it aside, if 4X4 remove front axle nut that goes through center of rotor, also remove brake rotor, disconnect elec, A.B.S connector, remove three bolts on back side of hub bearing, remove hub bearing, some times you will need to knock hub bearing out with a hammer.Reverse to install new hub bearing.

How do i remove the front caliper 1988 f250

You will have to remove the wheel, turn the wheel to the left to where you can see the back of the brake caliper. There is a rubber hose that is screwed into the top of the brake caliper. Put a small drain pan and place below the caliper to cetch the brake fluid. Remove the bolt that holds the hose to the caliper. There are two bolts that hold the caliper to its' bracket. They are located inside a rubber boot one on the top of the caliper and one on the bottom. Remove these two bolts with a ellen socket or torx socket. Once these bolts are removed you should be able to slide the caliper off and replace it in reverse order. You will have to bleed the air out of the system on that side by openig the bleeder and let the fluid drip out.hope this helps pleave leave comment

Removing calipers from a 1997 T-Bird..

Those bolts should be allen head bolts and NOT torx (star shaped). With a torx bit in that hole all u will do is mess up a torx bit and the flats for the allen wrenches to grab onto. Try using a 10 or 12 mm( cant remeber which it is) allen head wrench.

Changing front brake pads on a 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac

I'm guessing you have disc brakes in the front of the Explorer. If so, you need to unscrew the two bolts that hold the caliper on.(they'll be either hex or allen bolts) If the caliper does not slide off, take a C=clanp and slowly back the piston down on the caliper. This should free up the caliper so that it can be removed. Make sure you grease the slider pins for the caliper when you reassenble.

Front Brake Installation 1999 Ford Explorer Sport

Well, the bolts should be tight but the caliper should slide on the bolts. Another issue is that the pads should also slide in their grooves. My explorer built up some rust there which prevented their movement and cause the brakes to bind up.
