While moving, shifting up or down is fine with normal cluch pedal use. However when at rest at an intersection with the car in gear and the cluch pedal depressed for more than approx. 30 seconds the cluch engages to move the car or stall. shifter is difficult to move back to neutral ???? What is happening here ???? How to fix ??

Well, from what you have stated, this issue has progressed to the point that , any temp solution's may cause a cascading affect and, this may induce more serious problems. you could adjust but, this is not recommended.

  • Anonymous May 23, 2009

you will need to expand in this case. this will compensate for the lose of the plate material.

Some times it dose not start when it is hot.it starts after to many trying.my car is a porche 924 model 1982.i change the pompe and the filter.it still the same

1st, have an experienced mechanic check your ignition timing. hard starting when engine is hot is a sign of overly advanced ignition timing. Timing includes timing in the distributor, camshaft pulley, and crankshaft pulley.

if your ignition timing is correct, replace the CARBONS located inside your starter.

Replaced failed starter with new one on my 1977 porche 924, turn key and nothing. I have a fully charged battery.

check power and ground cables for fit and corrosion. If ok check starter switch wire(the little one) for voltage when key is turned,if none is ignition fuse/switch problem.

My cluch is stuck on automatic .can not move into gear.

theres a button under the dash.. if you lie down and look under the dash, push the brake pedal with your hand.. you will see it press against a button, that button is bad.. when the brake pedal pushes against that, it unlocks the shift selector so you can choose your gear.. change that and your problem will be solved.

We just bought a 2000 Suzuki esteem, the problem is whenever we start the car, it becomes very difficult to shift between gears when the car is idle, but when the car is on the freeway, shifting works...

The cluch not fully disingaging , ( carpet under the pedel, pedel bent , bushing worn out of pedal, low on fluild in clutch master ( brake fluid ) and bad cluch master or slave or air in system. A damaged clutch will drag too. If it shifts OK with the car shut off standing still trans lube is likly OK too. If it has a clutch cable it may need to be adjusted pull up on the clutch pedal as high as it can go then pust down with your hand it should only go down an inch before it gets harder to pust down as it openes the clutch and shoul continue to go down about 4 or more inches. The pedal should be as high or a little higher than the break paedal. If not the pedal height may be needing to be adjusted higher. Some slave master hydrolic sysems aren't adjusted and have to be replaced to fix lack of enought movement Clutes that are hard to pust in or get much harder as you get closer to the floor the cluch is likly to be worn out and need to be changed with a new clutch kit and resurface the flywheel. The flywheel can change to unflatand the cluch can drag. engine oil getting into the clutch though a leak in the valve cover or rear main can get on the cluch and make it drag and grab.

I have a 1987 Toyota Celica with a clutch problem, i just had the clutch redone 2 yrs ago. It seems that the free play of the clutch is gone, my pedal just sits right above the point where it would engage...

you ride the clutch excessively ,and slip the clutch between changes ,i can make a clutch last for 200,000kms ,but i have customer who has a new clutch every 6 mths to a year and he does just over 1000kms in that time .he will not use first gear and doesnt change down just rides the clutch to go up hill .he clls it clutch control ,i do not care because i make good money from this cantankerous person who knows how to drive with clutch control ,he even holds it on a hill on the clutch instead of putting handbrake on and then gearbox in neutral -I am just fitting him another clutch today ,the last one was easter last year .

1998 jeep wrangler dont shift into 1st or reverse

I will bet it grinds when you try to engage first or reverse. When this happened on my car, I adjusted the clutch and it improved. You need about a half inch of free play when you first touch the pedal with your foot. If you have a slave cylinder, (hydraulic clutch). You may need to bleed the system. With air in the system, you can't get enough clutch to fully disengage the trans from the motor.(Clutch and pressure plate) It's like you only pushed down half way on the pedal. If it's not hydraulic, it should be adjusted with wrenches. If clutch is fine, It could be a loose shift linkage. It would seem extra sloppy when moving shifter, It would just not go in gear, with out the grinding.Hope this helps. lbreen

92 toyota camry 5speed

it sounds like you ground the spacers between the gears. have a look under the gear shift. pull the gear shift off then look at the transmission spacers. you will see where the gear shift sits see if some spacers look like the rest.
