My low oil pressure light is on and I don't know whaat else to check besides the oil

replace oil pressure sender switch
change oil filter
then if no better
fit a sandwich plate oil pressure reader between oil filter and block
to get the engine oil pressure when running

Not sure but sounds like low oil pressure, you need to stop and check the oil level

Don't run the engine till you have checked the oil pressure with a gauge, the oil pump for wear or failure, or what is causing the low oil pressure. It can quickly damage an engine. I'm sure you have checked the oil level? Low or no oil pressure can be a number of things besides the oil pump, could be a clogged pick-up screen in the oil pan area, or a bad gasket seal on the pickup tube, or a clogged oil passage; if the engine is burning oil, then it's possible the crankshaft bearings, both main and/or con-rod bearings, are worn, and that is where oil pressure is significantly affected.
Start with verifying if oil pressure is actually lost. Only a gauge hooked up into that sender port can tell you that.

It can be the sending unit or the oil pump really has low pressure, have the oil pressure checked in the engine, if that is ok then the sender or the wiring to it is defective. DO NOT DRIVE THIS CAR UNTIL THIS IS CHECKED, YUOU WILL DESTROY THE ENGINE IF THE PRESSURE IS LOW. A NEW ENGINE IS ABOUT $3500.00, DO YOU WANT TO CHANCE THAT?

Most engines have a low pressure shut-off OR the lifters no longer work with lack of oil.
Have someone check the REAL oil pressure with a gauge.They can thread a gauge into the Oil pressure sensor hole.
Since the oil pressure sender COULD be bad,you need this true reading.
It should run just long enough to give a reading,I hope.
I don't know if the OBD II codes would show the oil pressure.UIt doesn't on my Focus.I hope you get `er going,but the engine must have at least 25 psi oil pressure.Have you replaced the oil filter? don-ohio

Could just be out of oil. Check the oil. Don't drive it! If it has plenty of oil the oil sending unit maybe faulty.. Best have a shop check engine oil pressure with a mechanical oil pressure gauge before driving it.. Engine will be ruined if you drive it with no oil pressure.

your owners manuel should tell you . some would be low tire pressure to low oil pressure.its telling you to check something that might be a problem. some times its the sensor that is defaulty. find it check it if its not a problem then its the sensor

So keep an eye on that oil level The best thing to do is every once in a while visually check the oil with the dip stick because no oil = siezed engine and you don,t want that. I hope this helps. This is a low oil pressure light, have the engine oil pressure checked at a shop, if it is ok replace the oil pressure sending unit.
