My car wont start

When I try to start my 93 pontiac bonneville, all i hear is a small clicking noise. the engine doesn't even turn over. I just got a new battery, new battery cables, and I just need some help on finding the problem. I was thinking it could be the cylinoid. Anyone have any answers?

I just had the starter tested and o reily's said it was good. But i don't know where the cylinoid is.

They checked it in this thing that they hooked up with wires and closed the lid. then i heard my starter working. but i dunno if they checked the solenoid.

That's a bench test, it really doesn't prove much, you need to have a starter draw test where the engine load on the starter causes it to draw more current and bad brushes or windings will show up. If you can't get this done easily, then at this point your easiest solution would be to change the starter complete. You have to weigh out the cost of towing and messing around with it much longer. If your battery is good and you've checked all the wiring, it's a very good bet.

The solenoid is part of the starter and they should have checked that at the same time. Did they check it in the car or on the bench?

You should probably take it somewhere that can do a starter draw test, but you may just want to double check all the connections at the battery and new cables. Sometimes one may get overlooked during the install.

Check the starter wires for tight fit at the starter. i would also recommend replacing the solenoid if found to be defective.

You can confirm starter function by jumping the starter motor.

I would check the Starter relay (interrupt) in this case just to be sure of its operational value. it is located In the Front seating area,on the driver side, behind the dash, mounted

    above gas pedal.

The solenoid is bolted onto the starter as shown on this picture below.

Its possibly the cylinoid or the ignition try testing the starter, let me know if that works...

99 Pontiac bonneville wont start. just get a humming. no crank or starter sound

This may be related to the antitheft security system. The system is known for turning off the starter and/or injectors when it fails. When it's the security locked out starter, you won't even hear a click when you turn the key. Is there a light on the dash that says SECURITY or a picture of a car with a lock through it? This is a common problem worth looking into. http://www.diy-gm-security.com/

My 93 pontiac bonneville will start sometimes and wont most of the time

Next time it does this have can of starting fluid handy, spray it into the air intake hose and see if it starts, if it does and dies out the fuel pump is defective.

Starter

A rapid clicking noise when you turn the key would be the starter solenoid trying to engage. The most common cause of this problem is a weak battery. Make sure your battery is fully charged, then try to start it. If this works get your charging system checked out first. Get a "load test" done on the battery. It may be starting to go. Also the alternator should be putting out 14.2-14.5V when the engine is running. If it's lower, the alternator is starting to wear out and needs to be overhauled. Make sure your battery cables are tight and the terminals are free of corrosion (green gunk).

If you need to go further, you only have to follow the positive (red) cable from the battery. It will go directly to the starter solenoid, which is on top of the starter. Hope this helps.

When I go to start my 93 Bonneville it loses all power and sometimes wont even crank, just click. I can jump it and once started it runs fine at 14 volts. I've changed the starter, alternator,negative...

Quick question, does the "security" light illuminate on the dash when you put your key forward and when it wont turn over? Do you have a little black chip in your key?

93 Bonneville Won't Start

No,check for spark first. The security code comes off the key itself & never needs servicing. If no spark, there's a load of things to check, but start with the fuses, then engine codes. Should narrow it down a bit.

98 chev blazer wont start or make any noises...

Listen for a click from under the steering column when you turn the key on. If you hear no electrical click then your ignition switch could be bad. If you hear an electrical click the you starter soleniod is bad.

93 bonneville wont start

Wow...this could be a BIG problem...unless you have pretty good mechanical abilities. Your BCM (body control module) is faulty. If it's any consolation, you're not alone. There are two schools of thought as a repair and often ends up being a "trial n error" type of repair. One is to match the rating of the small metal chip in your ignition key with a resistor (RadioShack) and splicing the resistor into the ORANGE wires leading from the ignition to the BCM. The other is to replace the BCM with a junkyard piece and IMPORTANTLY make sure you get the ignition key that goes with it.
Good Luck

Starting

When you turn the ignition key to start the car what happens? Do you hear a click form the engine compartment. If you do not hear a click, that means the starter solenoid is not working. If the starter solenoid does not energize that there is no voltage applied to the starter. So..... even though the starter has been checked out as good, it cannot work if the starter solenoid doesn't work.

Hope this helps
