Question about 1996 Volvo 960
Turn off car lamp stays on
If brake lights remain on then inspect brake light switch. Brake light switch is located on top of brake pedal arm bracket. It is either out of adjustment or faulty.

Heres how to turn it off: 1) Make sure Key is Off 2) Press and Hold Mileage reset button. 3) While Holding Milelage Reset button, swicth car to run, but dont crank..4) Continue to hold button until light flashes and goes off.. then switch it off .. Start the engine to make sure it worked.. Sometimes ya gotta do it twice.. NOW.. And ur Lamp indicator.. Means you probably have a brake light or turn signal bulb out on the rear.. Get someone to help ya look for that.. Lemmie know if this works.. and Take care.. Thanx

SOURCE: ''96 Silverado no tail lights.
if that doesn't help, you might want to check the bulbs. the damage might have shorted which burned out the bulbs. but you do have one wire that runs to the rear and splits off to the tail lights. the wire should run back to the head light switch via a fuse. the headlights have its own relay. but i hope it is just a fuse.

Check this 1st.With the car running, turn on the headlights. If the taillight gets brighter,it's the brakelight that is staying on.Turn the headlights off to see if that then makes it less bright. If so.try lifting the brake pedal up.If the taillights go out,it is the brakelight sensor switch that is hooked up to the brake pedal. This is a small pushswitch, located at the top of the brake pedal in the inside of the car.It will have 2 wires connected to it.It either needs adjusting or is faulty.Hope this helps
