Mustang 2001 convertible top goes up but not down.

My 2001 mustang convertible top goes and I can hear motor. When I push button down for top to go down the top does not move and I don't even hear the motor for the top at all. Could this be a lose wire? Are there two motors for up and down? I would like to fix this myself if possible - any advise?

I've had a similar problem with my Mustang. What they did was replace the switch. I don't believe they come with 2 motors. But I would definitely check the wires and look for a loose wire that goes to the down relay. If you get a wiring diagram in the owner's manual, or even a repair manual, you should be able to find which wire.

Sounds like the switch is bad. Also check the relays. You might have one for up and one for down.

My top goes down when i push button but will not go up its a 2001 mustang gt

It is most likely your switch when you try to raise the top push a little harder and see if that makes it try to raise up the top, what you are doing is reversing the hydraulic rams in the trunk, if when depressing the switch you hear clicking from the trunk you may have a bad relay.

The top won't go down on my 1996 Mustang convertible. What should I check on?

If motor does not run when the switch is pressed then check your fuses, the switch and the connector at the top motor to see if it is getting power. Remember the car should be in park with the emergency brake on. The key switch has to be in the run position. If you can hear the motor running check for the smell of hydraulic fluid. It could leaking from the cylinders that pull the top down and push it up. If one or both will not hold pressure. Replace cylinders if bad.

Convertible top goes down and won't come back up.

You are probably low on fluid.
Behind the rear seat is the motor/pump/reservoir.
With the top down, fill the reservoir till it overflows with ATF. Cycle the system a few times. Repeat till the reservoir will accept no more fluid.
Look for leaking lines or cylinders. The fluid must have gone someplace.
Always replace lines and or cylinders in pairs.

Top on my 2001 mustang wont go up

Mine wouldn't go up for a while and it was because I had a bad switch. Also check the motor and the wiring harness. It might go down because the connections are good but the opposite might be because the connections aren't good.

Mustang rear window...fuse or motor?

first check the fuse.if its good then check the window motor by pressing the button and if you dont hear the motor going theres your problem, needs to be replaced.  unfortunatly the motor isnt sold by itself you got to buy the window regulator. here is a pic. of the part29159f3.jpg

Convertable top will go down but will not come back up.

I had the same problem with my 95 GT. You may have a leak in your system (motor, lines, cylinders). It seems there just isnt enough fluid to push the top up. I think Ford used the same system for 01 also. I had to replace the hydraulic cylinder that pushes the top up. My fluid leaked out because one of the cylinders was bad. This may be the problem. Located the motor and look for leaks.

You are probably low on fluid.
Behind the rear seat is your motor/pump/reservoir combination.
With the top down, fill the reservoir to overflowing with ATF.
Cycle the system a few times and repeat.
Do this till the reservoir will take no more fluid.
Check the lines and cylinders for leaks. The fluid must be going somewhere.
If you replace any lines or cylinders, always do them in pairs.
