Air conditioning system blows warm air

My 2002 Mazda Protege 5es hatchback has ac but it blows warm air. I have waited several minutes but still warm air. The ac button light comes on, fan blows air but warm air. I am not sure if it needs a compressor or if I should just buy a Kit. Thanks for your advice.

    I thought freon was illegal......

  • Richard Scordino May 11, 2010

If you want to try a partial recharge, only use freon that does not have dye or sealant added. you really need a real set of gauges and experience to do the job correctly. If system has no gas remaining, have a shop do the work. Without proper tools you will only make things worse.

2008 Trailblazer Air Conditioner not cooling. blows warm air for the first few miles then cools. It has been recharged.

Philip, You may have to have a good tech, check, diagnose and estimate repair. Could be a few things causing poor AC, recheck your charge level, check your fan at the condenser, make sure the condenser isn't obstructed, compressor clutch could be faulty, system could be plugged with contaminates limiting refrigerant flow. You say the system has been recharged, was it done properly, if not system could be plugged. AC system should of had system checked for leaks, evacuated, flushed, new orifice tube, then recharged with proper quantities of oil and refrigerant. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

After my car has been running for a few minutes, it starts to "cough". I've been told that I might need to replace the air filter, but cannot find the case where the filter is held and don't have...

Air Cleaner The air cleaner is a paper element contained in a housing located in the engine compartment. The air filter element should be serviced according to the Maintenance Intervals Chart at the end of this Section. NOTE: Check the air filter element more often if the vehicle is operated under severe dusty conditions and replace, as necessary

---
Look for plastic parts that lead to the top middle of the engine. If you disassemble these parts, the filter is likely to be there.

2000 Mazda Protege LX AC starts cold, blows "vapor", then warms

Sure take your buddy with you when you go so he can drive you away while they fix it but you do the talking with your buddy standing by ready to leave. Yes low on freon condensate drain stopped up fan belt loose or needes replaced. This is an old car and the mechanics will likly find many things wrong with it make sure they know that you what them to run it awile after it's fixed so that it in with some gas in the tank so they won't worry about running out. Should get alot of repairs done for less than $200

1998 Mazda Protege air conditoner blows warm air

Chances are that if nothing over the winter poked a hole in the condensor, 1 or more of the O-rings that are at each joint / connection, has dried out therefore allowing the refrigerant to leak past the seal. Have a qualified tech check it to be sure. The cost may be a minimal 1.
