Question about 1995 Nissan Altima

2 Answers

Won't start seems like a fuel or vaccum problem.

Car was hard to start at first, then finnally started but when going up an incline it hesitated then went very quiet then finally stalled out, tried to restart but had no success.

To determine if it's fuel or ignition, try spraying some carb cleaner into the throttle body while cranking. if it starts, then it's fuel. Offhand it sounds idle a plugged fuel filter but could be the pump or pump relay as well. Check filter first if test shows it is fuel. If not, you will need a code check to get you pointed in a better direction. Replacing parts at random can get expensive really fast, so testing is important.

PS: ignore the word "idle" in my answer (don't know how it got there)

Check to see if there is any sound from fuel tank when you turn on key . If no sound is heard you will need to check for fuel pressure and then start checking to see if you have power and ground at the fuel pump connector most of the time it is accessable either threw back seat or around tank below car.

Well test the alternator first. I should think you can do that with a simple voltmeter. It should read between 12 to 14 volts. Only answer I can supply, sorry.

My 2001 Mustang Convertible hesitates on starting up or when going up inclines. Just yesterday it did it just while I was driving. Could this be the fuel pump?

It COULD be....but it could be other things too. Have you changed the fuel filter?

In regard to the fuel pump...does it only do it at startup or on inclines? How about under heavy acceleration? You can put a gauge on the fuel rail to check pressure coming from the fuel pump. There's a Schroeder valve on the front passenger side of the car at the end of the fuel rail to hook onto. Good place to start...

I've changed the fuel pump on my '01 GT convertible..not a real difficult task, but not much fun either. I recommend you join us on Modded Mustang Forums....(www.moddedmustangs.com/forums/) LOTS of good info and help there. Good luck!

My 1999 saturn starts to stall when I start going up a steep grade. Is this the fuel filter?

If your vehicle has had hesitation or sputtering especially while under a heavy load like an incline that would be my first choice to check.

2000 DURANGO, HARD TO START UP IN MORNING,YOU CAN DRIVE IT, THEN TURN IT OFF AND IT WILL SRART RIGHT UP, IT SEEMS WHEN IT SITS AWHILE IT WANT FIRE UP QUICK

this is common, the fuelpump may be bad, what happens is the fuel drains back into the tank when it sits, so when trying to start it cranks a while until the lines fill and build preasure, the best way to test is to connect fuel gauge to line and watch if preasure drops, another thing is to check fuel preasure regulator for leak, remove vaccum hose and see if fuel leaks out of vaccum port. good luck.

This is an 89 Civic with 145K miles, autotrans. It started out as an acceleration problem hesitating a little but has gotten much worse. It idles OK but once it shifts into third gear it will start to...

Start first with the fuel filter since this is a cheap part that can be replaced easily. The symptoms that you are experiencing may be due to dirty fuel filter. If you encounter hard starting you may want to check the fuel pump if it still sending fuel consistently. Worse may be problems with the injectors.

Hesitation on Acceleration or Uphill.

The knock is caused by either timing issue or a lean cylinder condition, have you checked the fuel pressure?? has the fuel filter been changed?? A bad knock sensor will not set a light unless it is open or disconnected.
