Shudder at idle, check engine light

My 95 F150 idels with a little "jump" or "shudder".After about a 1/2 mile I get a check engine light. The local repair said that I was running rich and suggested that I might need a new computer or that their might be a short in a wire.He said he ran a code test but I did not get the codes. ALSO..I've replaced the O2 sensor and tried the FPR trick suggested but no positive result.Could the MAF sensor cause this and can it be tested?Any Ideas???

What causes a f150 to start in high idel

What year F150? Newer? Is it cold right now where you are? It is normal for most fuel injected, computer controlled engines to run at higher idle speeds in colder weather (kind of equivalent to a choke) It helps warm up the engine faster. As long as the idle speed gets close to normal when the engine is warm and no lights are on, I wouldn't worry about it!

If it Idles up and down. Check the Idle air control, this is what controls Idling. ( IAC ). It may need cleaned or it is bad. Also first check for a vacuum leak in rubber hoses at engine. Hope this helps! Good-Day!

I have a 95 Mitsubishi Mirage, 1.8, manual transmission, distributor driven. 179k miles. Just started today, shudder after shifting in all gears, levels out after a moment, but seems to shudder stil

I would be checking the engine mounts as the shudder is when the engine is bouncing around under load
it it has a cable operated clutch, the problem could be that as the engine is allowed to move , it is affecting the operation of the pressure plate
it may be true that the distributor may have a problem but in this case , not electrical
distributor problems are limited ,to starting, missing, irregular timing but not what you describe

2004 F150 SuperCrew, check engine light flashes, engine runs roughly and shudders. Engine light stays on and the engine goes back to running smoothly.

Flashing CEL is an indication of a misfire. You would need a code scanner to find out which cylinder it is.
The code should be a P030n where n= 1 to 8 ( the cylinder number ). Could be a P0300, which is a misfire indication.

2001 Ford F150 battery light comes on at running speeds, but will go off at idel. Battery hand shows charging. Battery and alternator test good.

verify the belt tension-er is staying tight and not floppy around at higher RPMS,or the belt is not slipping ,have the alternator checked at higher RPMS not at an idle.the last is make sure the single wire little wire connector is tight

Check engine light

have you checked the MAP sensor? located rear engine area, center upper firewall, see if vacuum line is attached or leaking, I believe your local autozone can test it to determine whether or not it is good, running rich is a good sign that you have a problem with it or vacuum supplied to it, let me know

Runs rich, check engine light, shudder when idleing

On your fuel rail is a fuel pressure regulator. It is round metal part and will have a vaccuum hose on it. With the truck running pull the vaccuum line off of the regulator and see if any fuel comes out. If so replace the regulator. While a PCM can fail it is rare and you most likely have some other type of issue. There are some other sensors that can make it run rich but without any codes I can't guide you any better. Good Luck
