Your transmission oil pan is at the bottom of the trans, the heat shield you are looking to remove is on the right side of the vehicle above where the axle goes into the trans unit. You should find the sensor mounted there with one bolt and one wire plug, hope this is helpful, let me know

The speed sensor is mounted to either the side or the top of the transmission in the place where the old speedo cable style would go.

98 ford windstar fuse box, need anti lock brake fuse location in fuse box

The sensor codes have to be read off a computer to see the problem, either speed sensor, sounds more like ABS module. Locate the main fuse/control box under hood. There should be either a relay or large fuse marked for abs.Good Luck. Please rate me as ' helpful ' if satisfied.

How to replace a oxygen sensor in a windstar 3.8l

You need to know which one, a 98 windstar has four. The actual labor is simply unpluging the sensor and using a 7/8 wrench to unscrew it from the exhaust pipe.

Illustrated diagram on how to remove speed sensor for windstar 98

The Vehicle Speed Sensor is located on transaxle, at the rear of the engine. I would check the harness connector to be sure it is clean and connected tightly. Also check the wiring for cuts and chaffing. Since it is fairly inexpensive, only about $42.00 from Ford, you may want to consider replacing it, at least to eliminate it as a possibility. You may want to go to a muffler shop to have this done like speedy, I believe the flex pipe needs to be undone to get to the VVS. If there is an Auto Zone around your area, you could always ask them for the step by step instructions to replacing the VVS, and it's free of charge. Good luck and hope this helps.

Find and replace speed sensor

Hi,

On Top of the Transmission. You can see the Black sensor just under the Air Breather Intake assembly in front of the driver side. It has an electrical wire connection and is bolted onto the tranny with (2)5/16" hex head bolts and (1)1/2" nut that holds the throttle arm to the sensor. Very easy to replace.

Thanks.
