Engine stalling My dodge aries is a 1988 with about 55,000 miles on it. It has been running great til the last few days. Now it will crank up ok, but then dies. And as long as it is moving it is ok till you have to stop then it dies again. The engine light has been coming on to. What can I do to fix it?

Hello doncoth...very low mileage for an 88 aries and i doubt that anything serious is going on.
In 88 these engines were carbureted, not fuel injected & majority of the stalling problems were fuel system related on these cars,
like a broken or split vacuum hoses allowing air to be sucked into the intake manifold. Unmetered air changes the fuel mixture, and can cause a stalling problem..
Since the check engine light is coming on we need to find out what the trouble codes are.
To get the codes, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to the "run" position until all the dash lights come on (DO NOT START) Have your paper and pen ready to take notes.
Turn key back "off",then to "run" again,"off" again and then back to "run " and leave it there.....The check engine light will begin flashing....It will flash a 2 digit code....For instance,2 blinks followed by a pause, then 1 more blink would be code "21"....The last code displayed will be 55 (test is over) From that information we can determine the cause of the condition. The codes can be read here>>>> http://www.allpar.com/fix/codes/index.html the list is at the bottom of the page. Let me know what you find. I'll be glad to help you.
Good luck and i hope this helps.

1993 dodge dakota v8 4x4 runs bad when engine get up to opperating temp.. the truck runs great for about two miles then starts to miss and has nopower. fuel pump went bad I replaced it. the crank sensor...

Sounds very much like catalytic is fouled, blocked.. Works fine when cold, then bogs down and even stalls when heats up. May start and idle but wont go when you press gas.
Did this come on worse over a couple three days? I would get the cat checked for flow.

Have a 1989 dodge aries and when you start it does like to stay started and it bogs out when you try to take off

considering age and symtoms : classic signs of a clogged up fuel filter (fuel starvation) and/or air filter, fairly simple and inexpensive items, which are part of the normal and regular maintainence of every 15 to 25 k miles depending on your driving conditions. if its been a long time since they were changed , they need to be anyway, good place to start, you can do these two things and possibly it might run like new w/ better gas mileage. HOPE SO OK !!

Starter/alternator problems on 1995 Dodge Dakota

The bid cable on the starter may have had another wire on it that the alternator charges the battery threw,it may not have got reconnected,or the fusible link in that wire may have burned into.Or plain and simple the alternator went out.Check these things out and remove the alternator and have it check out to see if it is working properley.

My 97 dodge pickup 318 engine will miss sometimes and some times it will run just fine. it will do this while driving and just idling. Pretty much the same issue but with a 95 5.9L. Usually will spit and...

first ... put a bottle or two of gas line antifreeze in the tank (it sucks up water in the fuel)... if that doesn't sort it out.... your coil pack may be dying
