Trans won't shift out of first

I have a 1990 Nissan Maxima. I replaced the transmissiom with a used one. First trans would start slipping badly ay 30/35mph. Second trans will not shift out of first gear. Any suggestions> Could it be a bad TCM or just another junk trans?

I have a 1990 Maxima (auto trans) and Aamco rebuilt the trans a few years ago. Suddenly I was driving it and it just went into neutral and now it won't go into any gear. I checked the linkage and it is...

Did it go into neutral by the lever moving while you were driving or leve stayed in D but car was just revin g with no gain in aceleration.
It would be cheaper to get the gearbox replaced than to have it repaired.Check if you have enough fluid in the gearbox.

Hi, I have a 1999 Mercury Villager with the 3.3 Litre Nissan motor. Just recently my cousin replaced the timing belt, and distributor. When we got the van back it was having transmission problems. When you...

I would start by making sure the Trans Fluid level is correct. If the level is good, it sounds like your internal pressures are leaking down, and that is why it slips out of gear. Which means you have internal trans issue which would require the trans to be most likely removed and repaired.

Thanks Jay!

Auto trannsmission, shifts nice in reverse but feels like it slips when trying to go in forward gears, would transmission flush help or is it internal?

reverse is the last gear to go out in a auto trans when the clutch packs are wore out. It would be a internal problem.

What kind of trannys interchange with a nissan maxima with a v6 3000 engine

there is no interchangable trans for your model year maxima. you can install only maxima trans build in your model years. I think that was 1991-1994. also the engine configuration has to be the same as yours. nissan made your model maxima with 2 different engines. one model had VG30 engine and the other had VE30. two different engine models. you need to match it with yours.

I have a 1990 Maxima, Trans. not shifting out

your transmission is in limp mode. you will need to replace the speed sensor the two are tied together. more than likely you will need the output speed sensor on the transmission.

1990 maxima when I shift there is no sounds and nothing happens

If you press the accelerator, you hear the engine going up but it does not move then it is probably a trans problem.

There is a sensor on the hand brake wiring, that wont let the gear start, when no gear is engaging, that is usually cause for the problem.
