The release lever is just to the right of center.
you have to push the hood down slightly to release the pressure or it will not open.you need to make a hook out of a nail thick piece of wire to get under the latch and push it up at the same time you put some downward pressure on the hood.a bent screwdriver will work fine as a pry tool as well

Hood release wire doesn't let the hood on my 1995 Toyota turcel release it so it will open

The wire could be broken or the l?tch might be stuck. Try this takes two people one person pulls the release the other person lifts up on the hood must be done together. This worked for me.
If this works spray wd40 on hood latch

Hood latch will not close.

if you look down into the latch with a flash light you should see the hood release cable. it will be attached to a lever. if the lever is stuck all the way to the drivers side than the latch is sticking. Spray some penetrating lube into the latch and then use a thin blade screwdriver to help push it the other way. Continue to spray lubricant, pull the hood release, and move the lever with a screwdriver until it moves freely.

I kjnow this video is a ford but the mechanism is the same

1995 Toyota Corolla Hood will not latch

Check that the catch that the release cable pulls on is returning freely to catch on the cone shaped bolt head that holds the hood closed. Try spraying it with something like WD-40 and move the lever to free it.

Hood latch is pulled open but hood is stuck closed how do I get the latch to release.

Have one person pull on the latch inside and the other person pull up on the hood (sometimes depending may have to use a thin screwdriver to pry up carefully not to chip the paint). Once open lube the hood latch under the hood with wd-40. Make sure the latch inside is still connected to the wire.

Can't get the hood to latch when closed on a 1995 Toyota

The latch may be closed already. Have someone pull the cable inside and move the latch by hand to the open position again.

Hood will not release

You need to remove the black plastic mud guard from under the bumper, use a 10 or 12 mm socket with extention to reach the hood latch from under the car, un bolt the latch and lift the hood up to repair. Hope this helps.

Where's the hood release latch under the hood?. I think it's stuck..ie:cold weather contributing to stickiness. I want to stick some WD30 lubricant to loosen it if that is the problem. I pulled the hood...

u can't get at the latch unless the hood is open, kinda a catch 22, try this, have someone push down on the hood right over the center in front, that is where the latch is, this unloads the spring tension on the latch and many times it will allow u to pop the hood, then get some WD40 and sopray the latch

99 toyota corrolla hood latch is broken. Can't

There is a rachet right below the hood that you can reach from radiator grill.
Take a long thin screw driver, reach it and turn that rachet.
You will hear the "click" sound and the hood will pop open.

Toyota Corolla Hood is stuck

If it has been awhile since you have been under the hood, the cable may be rustd and not moving to open the latch. The latch iself may be stuck and you can try lightly tapping either side of the hood to pop it loose.

Hood on my 1995 Toyota Tercel won't open

Someone just successfully helped me with a similar problem. IF the cable is Not broken, ie: still taunt when one pulls the hood release lever in the car, then the latch under the hood is simply stuck. Try this. Have someone bounce/press down on the front center of the hood where the latch is located to relieve spring tension. At the same time have someone pull the Hood Release lever inside the car. This may pop open the front hood. Then after the hood opens spray WD40 on the hood latch to rid the rust which likely is the cause of the problem. BTW...don't know what you mean about the Oil Light comes on. You don't need the engine turned on to open up the front hood, at least not on my model (2door sedan).
