Can't get CODE IN on the screen

Hi,
I have SAAB 900, 1997. I had battery disconnected during mechanic work and after connecting it back could not turn the radio on. If I press ON button nothing comes on the screen. I do not know how to get CODE IN on the screen to be able to enter the 4 difit code. Any help please.

Thank you.

I have had this problem more than a few times. First you need to connect the negative cable last and when you do, try to connect it fast. For some reason if the connection sparks it doesn't seem to work that well. Second when you do connect it, go right into the vehicle and put the ignition key to the on position. Press the power button and the Code In should appear.
I don't know if you have the CD changer in the back although I have had problems with that too: Sometimes It dose not work properly after a reconnection. What I have done is unplug the CD changer cord from the changer until it works. For some reason its a pain in the ****, but if you keep at it it should turn on. Just remember that you have to have the radio on when your doing it.

Need the radio code to reset after battery was disconnected.

Afraid there is no radio code as such....the Saab headunit is paired to the car with Saab Tech 2 software.
A dead battery swap shouldnt lose the radio if it was working before you changed the battery.
Have you checked the fuse for the radio?

You should also post on Saabcentral

How to get check engine light off on a 1995 Saab 900S?

Pull the battery cables off and let them sit off for about 30secs. If the code comes back on after the battery is disconnected than that means you have a hard code and will have to have the car scanned and reset. There are two kinds of codes, hard and soft, hard codes need to be scanned and reset soft codes are simple issues that by disconnecting the battery the codes will go away.

When I switch on the radio?cd player in my Saab 900 the screen says "Code 1". What do I do to fix this ?

could be the anti-theft device in the radio. it requires you to put the 4 digit code in to "unlock" the radio for use. This number should have been given to you by the seller -otherwise can be obtained by a previous SAAB dealer. This can happen when the battery is disconnected for a period of time

Check all battery connections, the ground stap from motor to body connection, battery ground to motor and body and battery to starter connections. It could be bad starter also

Code -ECM

I see - I guess I didn't quite follow what you said. I have a friend at work who is a "Saab guy" and I'll ask him for you how to do this. Soon as we talk, I'll post up the information if he can give it to me.

Codes

What you probably have to do is enter a security code to unlock the radio - it's an anti-theft idea done by Saab, that Audi and BMW and others also do, to try and make it harder to re-sell stolen radios.

Go to the dealer with photo ID, the title to the car, and your registration - that way you prove who you are and that you own the car, and they can look up the code for you. They may charge you up to an hour's labor for this. Make sure they give you the code though, and don't just have a technician put it in. If you don't get the code from them, you'll have to pay them the next time too.
