Question about 2004 Mazda 3

1 Answer

Won't go higher then 2nd gear, AT and Check Engine light have come on.

I was on the high way at about 70 when I was hitting the accelerator the rpms would rev but it wouldn't go any faster. My AT light came on and shortly after my check engine light came on. I stopped at a gas station when I started the car the lights were off, before I got home they came back on and the problem persisted. I got some transmission fluid and put it in, now it goes up to the 2nd gear, but nothing after that, The RPMS just rev up. No strange noises or anything, I'm not sure what's going on with it, but I think it may be something with the transmission. Can anyone help?

I still have a warranty on the car, i've had to do a little bit of driving on it because i'm moving, should I completely stop using the car? Due to the memorial day weekend the dealership is closed and I have to go to work on monday. If there is a gear failure, is it expensive to rebuild? Thanks for your help, it's greatly appreciated!

Seems to be a shot gear pack or a faulty tcm that is not commanding the shift solenoids correctly. i would drop the pan and inspect the fluid. if you notice any metal fragments on the bottom of the transmission pan, this will confirm gear failure. you will need to rebuild in this case.

I would not drive this car until it is time for the inspection of the transmission. the re build is very expensive and, you do not want to progress the damage.

Sounds like 2nd gear in the transmission is slipping. Cars usually shift at 15-20 mph from first to 2nd. First check the trans fluid.

Could bet Torque Converter, not Ignition Switch, but if the "check engine" light is turn on, I suggest scanned the PCM to know exactly what fault code is stored there.

Car will not shift out of 1st gear

Did the 'Check Engine' Light come ON? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

Car makes a high-pitched squealing noise only while it is in lowest gear then stops once it gets up to 2nd or 3rd gear.

Check the belts for slippage and wear. If the tension is not correct, the belts will slip and create a "squealing" noise...moreso at higher rpms or on acceleration as you mentioned....That is the most common cause for a "squeel". I would check that first.
Good luck...i hope this helps fixya up.

Accelration only occurs at high rpms...and now car won't start

if the problem is when u go into gears it could be the clutch is going out. when it slips i can cause reduction like that. after you accelerate the clutch has time to engage and will provide power. the clicking sound is something diffrent. try charging the battery not just jumping it. if the car doing the jumping is not providing the right amount of power it wont start.
